The head coach actually understood what Wang Yi meant, so he nodded in agreement.
To put it mildly, Wang Yi had almost limitless stamina.
No one could outlast him in a battle of endurance.
So there was nothing wrong with letting him play the entire fourth quarter.
Over on the Celtics' side, the head coach had planned to take his starters out. But when he saw that Wang Yi still hadn't left the court, he cursed under his breath. Damn it.
He was now faced with a dilemma: should he keep his starters in to guard Wang Yi, or send in the substitutes?
After hesitating briefly, he decided to keep the starters on the court.
He also gave them instructions: "First, don't let him get the ball under any circumstances. Second, if he does get the ball—whether from a pass or a steal—and looks like he's about to shoot, foul him immediately. Remember, be rough. Don't let him get a shot off."
"Letting him score 90 points against us is humiliating enough. We absolutely can't let him score his personal 20,000th point against us, and we certainly can't let him score 100!"
"This is a matter of our Celtics' dignity!"
Everyone's faces turned solemn as they answered:
"Yes!"
Great Emperor Embiid's eyes burned with determination.
Tatum clenched his fists as well.
Both had made up their minds: no matter what, they couldn't let Wang Yi break a record against them.
Only Ja Morant said nothing, though that same feeling of despair rose in his heart once again.
He had faced Wang Yi more than anyone else, so he knew him best.
If Wang Yi wanted to break a record, nobody could stop him.
The head coach saw that Morant didn't seem entirely committed and asked, "Ja, is there a problem?"
