On the other end of the call, Nicole heard Wang Yi's voice and burst into tears. "Wang, are you all right?"
Her voice was full of urgency.
Wang Yi felt both anger and emotion well up inside him. "Don't worry. Everything's fine now. We've been taken to a military base, and soldiers are protecting us. As for the kidnappers, professional military forces are already hunting them down."
"I'm not hurt at all. I didn't even get a scratch."
Wang Yi wasted no time and went straight to explaining his situation, hoping to put Nicole at ease as soon as possible.
Hearing his words, Nicole couldn't hold back her tears. "That's good. That's good..."
Listening to Nicole cry, Wang Yi gave a rueful smile. "Nicole, it's all over now. I'm going to stay in Saudi Arabia for a few days, then I'll head to the United States in five days at most."
Nicole's voice came through the phone. "No, I can't wait. I'm going to Saudi Arabia right now. We'll meet there."
Wang Yi paused, then nodded. "All right."
He talked with Nicole for another five minutes before finally ending the call.
At that moment, there was so much more Wang Yi and Nicole wanted to say to each other, so much they wanted to share.
But the phone belonged to someone else. He couldn't keep it to himself forever.
After ending the call, Wang Yi was filled with emotion, but he also felt a sudden wave of fear.
He still shuddered when he thought about the reckless gamble he'd taken.
If he had died back then, he couldn't imagine how his parents, Nicole, and their two children would have managed.
That was when he resolved to cherish his life more from then on.
His life didn't belong to him alone.
