"What I want to ask is this: before the game, Tatum and the other Celtics players mocked you in all sorts of ways on social media and in interviews, but you never responded. So are these 128 points your response to them? Are you answering them with your performance on the court?"
Wang Yi shook his head. "No. This is just my job."
The reporter couldn't help but freeze, and everyone who heard Wang Yi's answer was just as stunned.
This wasn't quite the answer they had expected.
They had imagined that after those guys mocked Wang Yi before the game and he refused to respond, he would finally fire back after putting on such an outstanding performance on the court and beating all three of them. Given Wang Yi's personality, he was sure to start giving them a piece of his mind.
But he didn't. He simply said, "This is just my job."
What was that supposed to mean?
Another reporter asked Wang Yi, "If the 128 points weren't a response to them, then was your game-winning shot a response?"
Wang Yi shrugged. "The game-winner? No. That was just my job."
The fans were baffled when they heard Wang Yi say this.
"So Brother Yi isn't going to respond to them?"
"Come on, after they said all that about you, aren't you being way too nice by not answering them?"
Other viewers laughed. "I knew it. How could the King of Kings of Bluffing possibly pass up a chance to show off? He never responded after they provoked him before the game, and even after sinking the game-winner, he still didn't say a word. He just calmly packed up and headed for the Player Tunnel. That was so out of character. It's only just hit me: not showing off
