Yao Ming also gulped down a couple of swigs, then said:
"Let's get down to business. While watching the game tonight, I suddenly had a thought. Everyone thinks Pang Bo isn't developing as quickly as Juan. Juan already has what it takes to lead a team to the Western Conference Finals."
"But without you, the Raptors would be a borderline Playoffs team, and Pang Bo wouldn't be able to lead them into the Playoffs."
"In the Playoffs, Juan can still lead his team to victory even when he's double- or triple-teamed. Pang Bo doesn't have that ability yet."
"A lot of people think Pang Bo isn't as good as Juan. What do you think?"
Wang Yi smiled and shook his head.
"They don't know what they're talking about. I know Pang Bo's potential and ability inside out. He just hasn't fully shown them yet."
Yao Ming said, "Why can Juan show what he can do, but Pang Bo can't? When they first entered the league, they were hailed as the two greatest young stars of their generation."
Wang Yi didn't answer.
Yao Ming continued, "You should have realized this by now. You've always kept Pang Bo under your wing, so naturally he hasn't developed as quickly as Juan."
Wang Yi took a sip of beer, then nodded.
"Brother Yao, I understand what you mean. I'd thought about it before, too."
Yao Ming nodded. "The best way to help Pang Bo develop quickly is to have him leave you for a while."
Wang Yi nodded.
"Rationally speaking, it would benefit Pang Bo and the level of basketball in our country."
"Ever since This Is Slam Dunk, I've watched Pang Bo grow little by little. He's like a younger brother to me, and I want him to keep getting better and stronger."
