Dauding averaged fewer than eight points and only six rebounds per game.
To put up 20 points and 16 rebounds against the Spurs, a team full of tall players with long wingspans, was simply ridiculous.
But as the saying went, even the wealthiest family ate dumplings at New Year. It was only natural for Dauding to have a big game now and then.
As for Charlie Hannum, although he scored only five points in this game and turned the ball over as many as four times, he did a great job of keeping Wemby boxed out in the paint.
He used his size advantage to keep Wemby from getting into position.
That kept Wemby from grabbing rebounds and stopped him from receiving the ball in the paint.
And without his box-outs and screens, Dauding could never have put up such a big double-double.
Mad Tiger Tagore also had a great game.
When Wang Yi was double-teamed, he passed the ball to Mad Tiger Tagore more often, since Tagore was the only one of the other five players on the court besides Wang Yi who could still handle the ball a little.
Tagore seemed to have a flash of inspiration in this game. Once he got the ball, he made excellent decisions.
He was always quick to spot a teammate in space and get the ball to him.
He made a few mistakes, but overall, his good play far outweighed the bad.
Besides, he hit four three-pointers in this game.
Tagore finished with 15 points and eight assists.
The 15 points were secondary; what mattered most was that his eight assists helped bring the whole team together.
They broke through the Spurs' defense.
Aside from those three, A. Nikola also played well off the bench, scoring 12 points.
