But the problem was, Team America had already committed four fouls this quarter. Another foul would send China Team to the free-throw line.
So Phil hesitated briefly, thinking he'd let the players adjust on their own.
But that adjustment gave Wang Yi the chance to bury five three-pointers in a row.
Add the five threes he'd made in the first half, and he'd now hit ten three-pointers tonight.
If they didn't come up with a proper plan to deal with Wang Yi, he might really take down all of Team America by himself.
Phil had previously thought that Wang Yi could take down a whole team on his own, but not the Team America playing tonight.
Now, though, he wasn't so sure.
Finally, when Team America missed its next shot and China Team grabbed the rebound and launched a fast break, Phil couldn't take it anymore.
He stood up on the sideline, cupped his hands around his mouth, and shouted onto the court:
"Foul! Foul! Get out there and foul him!"
King Arthur reacted first. Seeing the coach's gesture and hearing his shout, he immediately understood.
He rushed forward and grabbed Wang Yi in a bear hug.
Team America committed a foul.
That sent China Team straight to the line for two free throws.
But it was the best option Phil Jackson had.
Otherwise, if Wang Yi got another shot off, it wouldn't be worth two points—it would be three.
Of course, if Team America fouled while on offense, China Team wouldn't go straight to the line. Possession would simply change hands, and China Team would get the ball.
That might seem like the better deal.
But Wang Yi was on fire. If they simply turned the ball over and let China Team attack, he might well bury another three.
