Finals Game 7, a Quadruple-Double at Halftime

Doug Lambier had been slapped to the floor by Wang Yi.

Yet the first thing he asked after coming to was whether Wang Yi had been called for a foul. When he heard that Wang Yi had, a smug smile even crept across his face.

The guy was almost exactly like his old man, Bill Lambier, when it came to this sort of thing.

After a little while, he got back up and continued battling Wang Yi.

And so the two of them started grappling again.

On one play, they kept wrestling and falling near the baseline at the back of the court, all the way to midcourt.

They fell six times in a row.

Of course, they were both putting on an act to some extent.

So even when the referee saw them, he paid the two of them no mind.

During that stretch, Doug's right foot got stepped on several times while they were fighting for rebounds. The pain was excruciating.

And twice, when he tried to undercut Wang Yi, Wang Yi stepped right on his foot.

Now the guy had a bit of a psychological scar when it came to undercutting Wang Yi.

He wouldn't dare try it on Wang Yi again.

But the guy really was tough.

He gritted his teeth and managed to hang on for several more minutes, only leaving the court in the final three minutes of the second quarter.

In his tussle with Wang Yi, Doug hadn't gotten much of an advantage, but Wang Yi hadn't lost much ground either.

That surprised Doug Lambier.

He had almost never met an opponent who could grapple with him for so long.

Most opponents gave up snarling and posturing after two or three rounds with him, but Wang Yi was different.
