The Strength of the Defensive Lineup
Danny didn't reply to Wang Yi's message or attend the gathering Wang Yi had organized.
That left Wang Yi feeling uneasy.
Early the next morning, he asked the coach, the manager, and Danny's agent about him.
They all said they hadn't been able to get in touch with Danny either.
That made Wang Yi even more uneasy.
However, since the team had already made its plans and was starting training camp that day, Wang Yi didn't have time to worry about Danny for now.
He could only leave the matter to the team's management.
At 9:00 that morning, the Sacramento Kings' preseason training camp officially began.
Head coach Luke Walton started with a small activity to help the players get to know one another.
Then they went through their usual strength and endurance training.
That afternoon, they held an intrasquad scrimmage.
For the scrimmage, Wang Yi, Beverley, Barnes, Tucker, and the Pie Emperor, Capela, were grouped together on the red team.
These five had the strongest defensive abilities on the team.
One criticism of the Kings last season was that their defense lacked intensity.
So this season, Walton wanted to see just how effective this defensive lineup could be.
After 20 minutes of scrimmaging, the red team had crushed the blue team by 27 points, winning 67–40.
The red team's game plan was simple: Wang Yi handled the offense, and everyone else handled the defense.
Each of the five was excellent at man-to-man defense. Together, their defensive ability was downright terrifying.
Hield had a hard time getting past them.
Under their defense, Gallo went 2-for-7 from three.
That gave head coach Walton hope.
A lineup like this could well become one of the Kings' go-to lineups in the new season.
