The Kings' Splash Brothers
With two minutes left and the Kings down by nine, Wang Meng was getting anxious in the Tencent NBA Live Broadcast Room.
"Hey, hey, hey, come on, man. You're one step away from the Finals. Show some fight!"
"Everyone else needs to step it up too. I'm talking to you, Danny. Yeah, you—quit watching!"
Wang Meng was getting anxious too. "Oh, man. Let's see how this final three minutes plays out. Will Wang Yi suddenly erupt and save the Kings, or will the old veteran control the game and drag the Suns into Game 7?"
Huang Jianxiang said, "Let's find out."
On the court, the Kings called a timeout.
During the timeout, the coach laid out the plan. "Give the ball to Wang Yi for the last three minutes. Make sure it gets to Wang Yi."
Wang Yi was the Kings' most reliable option.
He was also the team's leader. With three minutes left in a crucial game, giving him the ball was the obvious choice.
Nothing wrong with that.
Wang Yi didn't say a word.
For these last three minutes, as the team's leader, he wouldn't give way to anyone—whether he played fair or not.
Danny had been silent the whole time. He looked at Wang Yi, the coach, and all of his teammates.
His jaw clenched, his fists balled.
No matter what, he had to help the team—and help his leader.
Even if his three-point shooting had been miserable today.
After the timeout, both teams returned to the court.
When the Kings said they would give the ball to Wang Yi, they didn't mean he would handle it the whole way. Someone else would bring it up, then pass it to him.
Beverley dribbled across half court and passed the ball to Wang Yi.
