When they played three-on-three, Wang Yi was completely at ease. He could often sprint in from beyond the three-point line to help defend the paint, then quickly get back out to guard the perimeter.
On offense, he was even more unstoppable.
Just think about it: in the NBA, they usually played five-on-five, with almost everyone packed inside the three-point line, leaving very little room to drive.
But on a three-on-three court, there were only six players, so there was tons of space. Wang Yi could drive wherever he wanted, however he wanted, and practically do as he pleased.
And with all that room, he had plenty of space to work with once he drove inside, too.
Dunks leaping from the free-throw line;
reverse dunks with a midair tuck;
one-handed windmill dunks in the air.
In short, Towns had no way to stop him.
Seeing that he couldn't stop Wang Yi's drives, Irving tried to provoke him with some trash talk.
"If you're so good, shoot a three!"
He knew Wang Yi was a great three-point shooter, but everyone had off days. He was just hoping Wang Yi's three-point touch would be off today.
Wang Yi only gave a faint smile and replied, "If I shoot threes, it'll be like picking on you."
And really, with Wang Yi's three-point percentage, he didn't think there was any need to bully these guys.
Wang Yi was also going out of his way to target Morant.
Whenever he drove, he looked for Morant. Even if Morant wasn't guarding him, he'd have Yi Jianlian and Guo Allen run a pick and roll to switch Morant onto him, then drive right at him.
Aren't you so good?
Aren't you supposed to be a physical freak?
