History

Wang Yi's first Lakers tenure

Wang Yi first joined the Lakers on a ten-day contract, wearing No. 1 and sitting at the end of the bench during a lopsided loss to the Warriors. With five minutes remaining and the Lakers down by 35, the head coach finally called on him. 1

After several games of experimentation, Frank Vogel made Wang Yi the regular starting guard beside LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. 124 Wang Yi became a central playoff weapon: following Davis's injury, the Lakers drilled Wang Yi–James pick-and-rolls and assigned hand signals to their Wang Yi-centered three-point sets. 311
