Chapter 44: "Divine Wood Seed"
Shi Yue was no stranger to the prosperity of Great Void Valley. When he heard the shopkeepers' shouts from both sides of the street, he felt the urge to go in and take a look, even if he didn't buy anything.
However, the thought of having just spent three hundred and eighty Spirit Stones made him dismiss the idea.
After making several turns, Shi Yue stopped in front of a shop with a plaque above the entrance bearing the words "Taotao Residence" in large characters.
This was a second-hand Magic Tools shop, specializing in selling discarded Magic Tools from others. The prices weren't high, though naturally, the quality couldn't compare to brand-new Magic Tools.
Several Moonlight Stones were embedded in the walls inside the shop, their soft glow illuminating the entire space, making it as bright as day.
Dozens of Magic Tools were displayed on the shelves. Most of these Magic Tools had flaws; because the cost of repair was too high, their owners had sold them here.
The shop owner was a shrewd-looking middle-aged man who was currently introducing something to a young woman.
"Esteemed Fairy, this Autumn Rainbow Saber is a high-grade Magic Tool. Its former owner once used it to slay a Rank 1 high-tier Yao Tiger. Although the blade has two nicks, it doesn't affect it much. Seeing as it's your first time visiting, how about one hundred Spirit Stones?" the middle-aged man said enthusiastically, pointing to a red flying saber with finger-sized chips on its blade.
"One hundred Spirit Stones is too expensive, make it cheaper!" the young woman bargained, her eyes full of admiration.
"How about this! For the sake of your breathtaking beauty, ninety-five Spirit Stones," the middle-aged man said with a smile.
Hearing this, Shi Yue's lips twitched.
The young woman was short and plump, her face covered in pockmarks. Was that considered breathtaking beauty? He wasn't wrong to call this blatant lying!
"Deal," the young woman said, her cheeks flushing as she agreed.
Seeing this, Shi Yue nodded inwardly. For the sake of Spirit Stones, even blatant lies weren't a big deal.
After paying the Spirit Stones, the young woman left with a beaming smile, swaying her ample waist.
"What kind of Magic Tools would this Fellow Daoist like to buy? Shall I introduce you to some?" the middle-aged man said with a smile.
"I'm looking for a Magic Tool for plowing," Shi Yue stated directly.
"A Magic Tool for plowing? We just acquired one," the middle-aged man nodded. He reached into his storage bag and produced a Magic Tool with a peculiar design.
The Magic Tool was entirely yellow, its handle was shorter, and it was covered in rust, appearing quite old.
"To be honest, Fellow Daoist, this Magic Tool was used by a Spirit Planter from Great Void Sect. Don't let its worn appearance fool you; when attached to a bovine Yao Beast, it plows the land without any issues. How about fifty Spirit Stones?" the middle-aged man said with a smile.
"The handle is broken, and I don't know if that will affect its plowing. It's covered in rust; will it suddenly break during use! Besides, this is just a low-grade Magic Tool, and fifty Spirit Stones is too expensive. Ten Spirit Stones would be more reasonable," Shi Yue said, frowning and bargaining.
"Ten Spirit Stones? Fellow Daoist, you jest. Ten Spirit Stones isn't even enough for the acquisition cost. How about this! Seeing as it's your first visit, I'll give you a discount. Thirty Spirit Stones, what do you say?" the middle-aged man said after a moment of thought, his brow furrowed.
"Fifteen Spirit Stones at most. If not, I'll go to the next shop. I remember there are a few more ahead," Shi Yue said, shaking his head.
"Alright! Fifteen Spirit Stones it is," the middle-aged man said after a brief pause, agreeing.
After paying the Spirit Stones, Shi Yue put the Magic Tool into his storage bag and turned to leave Taotao Residence.
It was still early, and Shi Yue didn't want to go back yet, so he continued strolling along the street.
A quarter of an hour later, Shi Yue arrived at a bluestone square. Many small stalls were set up in the square, manned by rogue cultivators.
The goods on these stalls were varied, including Magic Tools, Talismans, Spirit Herbs, and other cultivation items. Of course, sometimes one could find some good items; it all depended on your discerning eye.
"Qi Refining Powder, only four Spirit Stones per pill. Five pills a bottle, twenty Spirit Stones per bottle. Fair prices, come and see!"
"Fifty-year-old Crimson Sun Flower, don't miss out!"
"Excellent mid-grade Magic Tool, only eighty Spirit Stones."
Occasionally, stall owners would shout loudly to attract business, but most of them sat quietly behind their stalls, simply placing a sign next to their wares to indicate the price.
Shi Yue walked past the stalls with the crowd, stopping occasionally to listen to what onlookers were saying, but he didn't purchase anything.
Although the goods sold by rogue cultivators were cheap, they were mostly ordinary items. Shi Yue was just looking around to pass the time.
Before long, Shi Yue reached the center of the square.
"I don't want this seed anymore. Give me back my Spirit Stones. It's been buried in the Spirit Field for a month and still hasn't sprouted. It's clearly a dead seed."
"Hmph, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. This seed clearly still has vitality; how can you call it a dead seed?"
"If it has vitality, why hasn't it sprouted in a month? You're clearly a swindler."
"I've told you, this is the seed of some kind of Divine Wood. It's normal for it to sprout late."
A fierce argument erupted from a stall ahead.
"Divine Wood seed?" Hearing this, Shi Yue's face showed a hint of interest, and he quickly walked over.
The surrounding cultivators, having heard the commotion, also gathered around curiously.
There were three great Divine Woods in the cultivation world: Heavenly Thunder Bamboo, Soul Nurturing Wood, and Spirit Eye Tree. However, very few cultivators had actually seen a Divine Wood with their own eyes. It was said that the three Divine Woods had gone extinct in a great calamity tens of thousands of years ago.
Therefore, even just the seed of a Divine Wood attracted the interest of many cultivators.
Thanks to his quick reaction, Shi Yue secured a good vantage point and could see everything clearly.
In front of the stall stood a young man of about seventeen or eighteen, with a cultivation base of Qi Refining Layer 5. He held a green wooden box containing a green seed the size of a longan.
The stall owner was a middle-aged man with a brutish face. Judging by the fluctuations of Magical Power emanating from him, he was at Qi Refining Layer 8.
Someone noticed that the young man's collar was embroidered with a plum blossom pattern, which seemed to represent a certain identity.
Upon seeing the plum blossom pattern on the young man's collar, Shi Yue nodded inwardly. So, the young man was a disciple of the Meihualing Chen Family, no wonder he dared to confront a Qi Refining Layer 8 expert.
The Great Tang had five major cultivation sects: Ancient Sword Sect, Myriad Beasts Sect, Wind Fire Sect, Great Void Sect, and Colorful Clouds Valley. Among them, the Ancient Sword Sect had the strongest overall strength, while Great Void Sect ranked at the bottom. Besides the five major cultivation sects, the Great Tang also had many cultivation families, and the Meihualing Chen Family was one of them.
If Shi Yue remembered correctly, several disciples of the Meihualing Chen Family had joined Great Void Sect, so this cultivation family had a relatively good relationship with Great Void Sect.
