Night had fallen over Fujikasane Mountain. It was dark and silent.

It was like a cold grave. There wasn't even the sound of birds, and the darkness was absolute, without a trace of light.

Then a shrill scream rang out, tearing through the silence.

"Waaah-----!"

Duanmu Huai's longsword swept past, and the Demon it had chopped into pieces shattered behind him, vanishing and turning into a pile of ash.

"It's not that I can't play around, but this doesn't feel very fun."

Duanmu Huai returned his sword to its sheath and listlessly glanced behind him. He had come here specifically because Tanjiro had said that he had met him once at Fujikasane Mountain. Duanmu Huai had originally hoped to encounter someone like Upper Moon Three or Upper Moon Six here. At the very least, he wanted some Lower Moon-level opponent to give him a good fight.

But... they were all trash.

Every last one of them.

Duanmu Huai wandered through the mountain, casually hacking apart the Demons that charged at him, unable to muster any interest. These Demons were simply too weak and had no special abilities. They seemed to be only slightly stronger than ordinary people. Then again, that Tanjiro guy was weak too. If he ever encountered an enemy like an Upper Moon, he would probably have been killed long ago.

"Uaaaaaah---!"

Just then, a shout came from nearby. Duanmu Huai froze for a moment, then turned and walked toward the source of the noise.

"Bang!"

When Duanmu Huai reached the place where the sound had come from, he saw a boy fly past his eyes before crashing into a nearby tree and falling to the ground.

Oh, wasn't that Tanjiro? He was taking quite a beating.

Duanmu Huai had been mentally prepared for his strength, though.
