As before, Duanmu Huai first sent out a Recon Skull to investigate. The others waited for news in the Tactical Command Room.
Before long, a city appeared on the screen.
"Oh?"
Seeing the city on the screen, Duanmu Huai raised an eyebrow, while the other girls were somewhat surprised as well.
That was only natural.
Along the way, they had seen quite a few cities. Most of them looked the same: dark, dilapidated, or burning amid the flames. That was only natural, since zombies had no intelligence to speak of. Even if the system malfunctioned, they would not repair it. Before long, entire cities lost power, or huge fires erupted because of short circuits and the like.
Naturally, there was no fire department to put them out. Under such circumstances, the cities were in terrible shape. Quite often, they even triggered chain disasters. One city Duanmu Huai had visited before was like that. It had been a chemical-manufacturing city, and after the plague broke out, huge fires had spread across it. The chemical materials in the warehouses had then exploded. By the time Duanmu Huai and the others arrived, the place looked as if it had been hit by a nuclear bomb. Neither survivors nor zombies had much left behind.
Only a very small number of lucky people had barely escaped the disaster.
But the city before them looked orderly. It was already sunset, yet the city was still lit by flickering lights. Neon signs, streetlamps, and the brightly illuminated office buildings made it look almost like a perfectly normal modern metropolis.
They could even see vehicles traveling along the roads. Quite a few people were coming and going on both sides of the streets, and they looked rather calm as well, completely different from the frightened, uneasy survivors elsewhere.
