When will the world be destroyed?
For most people, this was a question they had never considered. Even if they had, they would have assumed there should at least be some kind of warning.
But sometimes, the destruction of the world came without any warning at all.
Just like now.
Duanmu Huai walked along the road with his hands in his pockets, humming softly. All around him, the smooth road was as it had always been, but everything else had changed. The buildings were covered in flesh, while the power lines strung through the air had become twisted things that resembled intestines. The sky was a vivid crimson. As far as the eye could see, the entire world seemed to have become the inside of some enormous organism.
This reminded Duanmu Huai of an animated show he had once watched that personified the cells inside the human body. In that show, the cells worked and lived inside the human body like humans, supplying it with nutrients and maintaining its survival. And now, this world seemed to be the real-life version of that show.
On both sides of the street, chunks of flesh writhed in sight. Some were large and some small, all of them bearing blood-red eyes and pitch-black holes across their surfaces. Like snails stripped of their shells and skins, they writhed along the ground, congealing and merging. Duanmu Huai had no idea what this world looked like through their eyes, but it was certainly not the same world he saw.
Still, he did not care about such trivial matters.
Because he had already found his target.
"Ah---!"
A piercing scream rang across the sky, startling a flock of birds. They flapped their featherless, fleshy wings and let out shrill cries as they spewed murky green slime from their
