Layers of barriers operated soundlessly. Spells hidden among the pillars and eaves glimmered faintly, while the guarding miko and warriors wore solemn expressions, as though facing a formidable enemy.

Without causing the slightest disturbance or triggering a single warning barrier, he appeared outside the quiet chamber deep within the miko's sleeping quarters, as silently as a stroke of ink blending into the background.

Yet from her slightly tense shoulders and her unmoving posture, as if she had been frozen in place for a long time, Chiyo could clearly sense the heaviness and exhaustion in her heart.
