A thousand li east of the Western Country.
A black-robed figure swept across the sea of clouds, his white hair streaming behind him in the fierce wind.
Chiyo traveled above a stretch of continuous mountain ranges.
The range was called Crimson Flame Ridge, named for the frequent underground lava activity.
From high above, the mountains were covered in volcanic craters of all sizes. Some slowly emitted bluish smoke, while others had long fallen silent, covered in dark-red volcanic ash.
Chiyo was about to continue onward when his thoughts stirred.
He lowered his head, his gaze piercing through the clouds and landing on a massive crater deep within the mountains.
An unusual power was surging there.
It was neither pure Demonic Power nor the Spiritual Power of humans.
Instead, it was a strange fluctuation mixed with resentment, flames, and vitality.
"Interesting."
Chiyo turned sharply and descended toward that crater.
Crimson Flame Ridge, Blazing Volcano.
This volcano was the largest active volcano in Crimson Flame Ridge.
It erupted once every few decades.
Its most recent eruption had been three days ago. Scorching lava had flowed down the mountainside, turning dozens of li of land into charred earth.
At this moment, the lava within the crater had not fully cooled. Crimson magma slowly churned in the depths, radiating scorching heat.
At the very center of this sea of lava, a blazing white light was slowly taking shape.
It was a horse.
A snow-white horse wrapped in crimson flames.
It rose from the lava, its four hooves standing upon the boiling magma. Flames climbed from its hooves, yet could not harm it in the slightest.
Its mane resembled raging flames, fluttering amid the heat waves. Its eyes were the reddish gold of molten lava, burning with resentment and the wild joy of rebirth.
