Lin Ximeng stepped forward and handed the certificate issued by the Spirit Receiver during Martial Soul Awakening to the Spirit Receiver. "Hello, I'm Lin Ximeng, a teacher from Red Mountain Academy. This is my student. He has level-six Innate Soul Power and reached level ten after only one year of cultivation. We're here to apply for a Spirit Soul."
Hearing Lin Ximeng's words, the Spirit Receiver was immediately startled. He accepted the certificate and confirmed that it was genuine. Level-six Innate Soul Power was not low, but reaching level ten in a single year, especially with a Weapon Martial Soul, was truly a very fast cultivation speed.
After recovering from his surprise, the Spirit Receiver pulled out a form from beneath the counter. "Kids these days are really impressive. You're the most talented child I've met since coming to AOLAI City. Fill out this form first, then come with me for a Spiritual Power Test."
"Come with me." After looking over the completed form and finding no issues, the Spirit Receiver spoke.
Before long, the Spirit Receiver led the two of them into a room filled with equipment. He motioned for An Ping to sit in one of the metal chairs. "Little friend, do you know why we need to test your spiritual power?"
An Ping thought for a moment before answering, "I think it's related to what level of Spirit Soul you can fuse with. The higher your spiritual power, the older the Spirit Soul you can fuse with."
The Spirit Receiver said, "What a clever child. You're right. The more powerful the Spirit Soul, the stronger your spiritual power needs to be in order to communicate with it. For example, if your spiritual power is strong enough, you can obtain a hundred-year Spirit Soul. All right, let me test what level your spiritual power has reached."
As he spoke, he began operating the equipment. A helmet-like device connected to metal tubes descended from above and covered An Ping's head.
"It's about to begin. You may feel slightly dizzy afterward, but that's normal. Don't be nervous. Try to relax your body." Once the helmet had settled into place, the Spirit Receiver instructed him.
"Okay."
After hearing An Ping's reply, the Spirit Receiver pressed a button. A faint humming sound rose. As the machine began operating normally, the Spirit Receiver turned toward the Soul Guidance Screen, where the numbers began to jump.
The value rose rapidly, climbing from zero to nearly one hundred in no time. Under the Spirit Receiver's horrified gaze, it ticked upward bit by bit before finally stopping at one hundred.
He shut down the machine and raised the helmet. "Exactly one hundred points. Very good data. I never expected that, at such a young age, your spiritual power would already be at the peak of the Spirit Origin Realm. One more step, and you'll reach the Spirit Connection Realm. Your spiritual power is even higher than mine. No wonder you cultivate so quickly. Come, I'll take you to choose a Spirit Soul."
Lin Ximeng wore an equally astonished expression upon hearing the result announced by the Spirit Receiver.
"Thank you."
"Since your spiritual power is exceptionally outstanding, I can allow you to choose a hundred-year Spirit Soul suitable for you."
"At present, AOLAI City has twelve kinds of hundred-year Spirit Souls. If you can't make up your mind while choosing, you can ask either me or your teacher."
As they walked, the Spirit Receiver introduced the twelve available hundred-year Spirit Souls. Before long, the three arrived at another room. The room contained only small machines, and from outside, it was possible to see that each one was used to store Spirit Souls.
After entering the room, An Ping looked at the dozen or so Spirit Souls available and found it hard to decide. Subconsciously, he released a portion of his spiritual power, wanting to probe them, but it was blocked by the machines.
With the machines blocking him, he naturally failed to detect any useful information. Still, when his spiritual power swept across one of the machines, he felt a faint pull.
An Ping walked toward that machine, turned to the Spirit Receiver, and pointed at the Spirit Soul orb inside. "Can I choose this one?"
The Spirit Receiver looked at the machine An Ping was pointing to. "Of course. Your Martial Soul is a Weapon Martial Soul, so theoretically, it won't repel any Spirit Soul. This Spirit Soul is a Spirit Crow and doesn't have any particular elemental affinity."
"Since you applied for a free Spirit Soul, and it's a hundred-year one at that, you can't take it away. You can only absorb it here."
Seeing An Ping nod in agreement, the Spirit Receiver opened the machine and took out the Spirit Soul orb inside.
"Come on, I'll take you to absorb the Spirit Soul." He handed the Spirit Soul orb to An Ping and led the pair to the entrance of another room, where he stopped. This room was specially used for Soul Masters to absorb Spirit Souls.
Since they had not yet covered any lessons related to absorbing Spirit Souls, Lin Ximeng pulled An Ping aside and gave him a string of instructions, while the Spirit Receiver occasionally added a few words.
"Alright, I remember. Thank you, Teacher Lin, and thank you, sir."
The Spirit Receiver patted An Ping on the shoulder. "What a sensible child. Go on in."
The room was extremely quiet. To prevent Soul Masters from being disturbed while absorbing Spirit Souls, it had been soundproofed.
Sitting cross-legged, An Ping summoned his Martial Soul as a soft white light flashed. Then, he opened the Spirit Soul orb in his hand. A slightly illusory White Bird flew out.
Guided by instinct, the little bird sensed the presence of An Ping's Martial Soul. It first circled around him several times, then suddenly plunged headfirst into the cover of the Book.
As the Spirit Soul entered, the Book's cover suddenly gave off a gentle glow. White patterns slowly emerged around the edges of the cover, as though someone were tracing them with a pen.
It was An Ping's first time absorbing a Spirit Soul. He had no idea whether others experienced the same thing when absorbing one, so he could only let it happen.
Soon, as the patterns finished forming, a Yellow Soul Ring slowly appeared.
"It succeeded that easily? Why does it feel so unreal?" he muttered softly. He stopped overthinking it, rose to his feet, and opened the door.
"Is something wrong, little An Ping?" Seeing An Ping emerge so soon after entering, Lin Ximeng asked.
With both the Spirit Receiver and Lin Ximeng staring at him, An Ping said awkwardly, "Um... I'm done absorbing it."
"That fast?!" Lin Ximeng and the Spirit Receiver exclaimed in unison.
An Ping could only prove it through action. As he summoned his Martial Soul, a Yellow Soul Ring slowly appeared. Seeing the Soul Ring emerge, the two knew there was no problem and did not ask further questions. They could only attribute it to An Ping's powerful spiritual power.
Afterward, they returned to the hall with the Spirit Receiver and made a record. Lin Ximeng then led An Ping out of the Spirit Pagoda.
"Grrr..." An awkward sound rang out. Lin Ximeng looked at An Ping rubbing his stomach and smiled. "You're hungry, aren't you? It is getting late. I'll take you to get something to eat."
Lin Ximeng took An Ping to lunch, then gave him another round of instructions when they parted. After obtaining a Spirit Soul, An Ping did not feel anything particularly special. He hurried home all the way.
