"Alright, Sun Wukong, what is it you truly want? Just say it."
King Yama sighed heavily. He suddenly realized that from the moment this monkey entered the Underworld, he seemed to have seen through all their schemes.
They thought they had set a trap, but who knew this mischievous monkey was completely unfazed!
They thought they were playing with the monkey, but in the end, they were the ones played by the monkey!
And the monkey had even caught them by the balls!
"My soul was summoned here by you for no reason, scaring me so badly I almost lost my spirit and soul. At the very least, you owe me some compensation for emotional distress! Hand over ten or eight Innate Spirit Treasures to calm my nerves. Not a single one less!"
Sun Wukong was not polite. After speaking, he simply sat down in the middle of Yama Hall, stretched his legs, and looked utterly righteous, as if he intended to live there permanently.
King Yama's mouth twitched, and he spread his hands helplessly:
"Let alone ten or eight, I can't even produce one... I am merely a Grand Unity Golden Immortal. How rare are Innate Spirit Treasures? How many Grand Unity Golden Immortals in this world still seek them in vain? How could I possibly possess such treasures?"
What he said was the truth.
The Primordial World was vast, and there were only so many Innate Spirit Treasures. Each one was a treasure that shook the Primordial World. What treasures could a puppet Yama King, who was just put in place, possibly have?
The monkey merely grinned and shook his fur:
"If you won't give them, then fine, let's go find Empress Pingxin to settle this. I refuse to believe that in this vast Underworld, there's no place for reason..."
Hearing this, King Yama's head began to ache. At this point, he was certain that Sun Wukong had seen through everything.
King Yama took a deep breath, dismissed his attendants, and then said word by word:
"Sun Wukong, it's just the two of us now. You don't need to pretend anymore. I know... you've figured it out!"
Upon hearing this, Sun Wukong's previously playful expression suddenly vanished. A cold glint flashed in his eyes, and it seemed as if thunder was brewing deep within them.
"Heh... King Yama, you're not entirely stupid after all. At least you're better than that foolish dragon from the Eastern Sea!"
He slowly stood up, approaching King Yama step by step, his voice chilling:
"I am already at the Peak Grand Unity Golden Immortal stage, having long since leaped beyond the Three Realms and escaped the Five Elements. I am immortal, co-existent with heaven and earth, and deathless!"
"You mere Underworld dare to summon my soul... Do you truly think I wouldn't slaughter your entire hall of shade souls?"
Before his words even fell, a violent immortal aura, like a raging sea, exploded forth. The netherworld ghost fire throughout Yama Hall shook violently, and the pillars emitted cracking sounds, as if they could not withstand the oppressive pressure.
King Yama trembled, his legs went weak, and he had to grip his throne to barely steady himself, his face ashen.
"I dared to kill two Bodhisattvas from Spirit Mountain, do you think I would fear a puppet Yama King like you?"
Sun Wukong sneered, faint thunder and scorching demonic energy swirling around him. His golden fur glinted eerily in the darkness, and killing intent spread like a tide from his feet, instantly turning the entire hall into a scene of bloody chaos.
King Yama felt his breath catch. Cold sweat trickled from his temples down his neck. He stammered in a hoarse voice, begging for mercy:
"Immortal, please calm your wrath! This lowly king, this lowly king was merely following orders... I beg the Immortal to show mercy..."
Sun Wukong let out a cold snort, paced back and forth with his hands behind his back, a half-smile on his face:
"Hmph, King Yama, you all want me to cross out names from the Book of Life and Death to satisfy Buddhism, don't you? This is not difficult, as long as... you agree to a few small conditions of mine."
Upon hearing this, King Yama's eyes lit up, and he said excitedly:
"If the Immortal can truly do this, this lowly king will be eternally grateful! What is it that the Immortal wishes this lowly king to do?"
Sun Wukong smiled, his fangs flashing, and spat out the words coldly:
"I don't ask for much. The Water of the River of Forgetfulness, Seeds of the Other Shore Flower, Netherworld Ghost Fire, Fruit of Reincarnation, Seeds of the Grass of Forgetfulness, Seeds of the Mandara Flower, Heart of the Netherworld Lotus... not a single one can be missing."
Before he finished speaking, the netherworld wind in the hall suddenly paused, and the smile on King Yama's face froze.
"This... Immortal..."
These items were all unique to the Underworld. While not the only ones of their kind, they were extremely precious treasures with unparalleled effects.
Seeing this, Sun Wukong's gaze sharpened, and he said coldly:
"What, you're unwilling? These things I'm asking for are not unique or rare artifacts. Could it be that you, the King Yama, are reluctant to part with them?"
King Yama felt a chill run through his body. Gritting his teeth, he slowly took out jade boxes, porcelain bottles, and purple-gold chests from his storage ring, presenting them to Sun Wukong with both hands, and forced a smile:
"Immortal, please calm your wrath. These... these are the treasures you requested. Please accept them."
Sun Wukong took them and casually shook them. He sniffed the Seeds of the Other Shore Flower and nodded in satisfaction. Then, he patted King Yama's shoulder, leaned in with a smile, and whispered in his ear:
"I am in charge of Flower-Fruit Mountain and command a million demons. I've been a bit tight on funds lately!"
"As for your Underworld, you receive nourishment from human incense every year, and countless shade souls offer their filial piety and tribute!"
"I'm sure you're not lacking in gold, silver, and treasures. I won't ask for much. From now on, send one-fifth of your annual tribute to Flower-Fruit Mountain. What do you think?"
At his words, King Yama's face stiffened abruptly.
This monkey was truly as cunning as a monkey!
"Immortal... this, this one-fifth... is truly a bit too much..."
"Hmm?"
Sun Wukong raised an eyebrow, his smile as cold as a blade's edge. His fists clenched with a "crackling" sound, as if he could smash Yama Hall to pieces at any moment:
"King Yama, I don't want to make things difficult for you. You have two options: either I beat you to death right now! Or I go find Empress Pingxin to settle this!"
Hearing this, King Yama's face turned green, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He quickly raised a hand and said:
"Esteemed Immortal, please calm your anger. I think this matter... is not impossible to discuss, but... one-fifth truly hurts the vitality of the Underworld. We still need to bribe the Heavenly Court, Buddhism, and Taoism. How about... one-eighth? Is that acceptable?"
Sun Wukong nodded, a grin revealing his teeth:
"Alright! One-eighth it is! But, old King Yama, you'll have to swear a Great Dao oath! And from now on, you must offer tribute every year, no breaking your word!"
King Yama's lips twitched. He forced a smile, cupped his hands, and swore the oath. Only then was Sun Wukong satisfied!
After all this was done, King Yama eagerly took out the Book of Life and Death and the Judge's Brush, presenting them before Sun Wukong. He said with a fawning smile:
"Esteemed Immortal, can you cross out the names from the Book of Life and Death now?"
"Hand them over!"
Sun Wukong narrowed his eyes, looking utterly defiant.
King Yama quickly took out the Book of Life and Death and the Judge's Brush, respectfully handing them to Sun Wukong. He said:
"Esteemed Immortal, please!"
However, Sun Wukong merely glanced at them and said dismissively:
"What I want to cross out is the Netherworld Book! Not the Book of Life and Death!"
"Bring out the Netherworld Book, don't hide it!"
Hearing this, King Yama froze, exclaiming in shock:
"What, you want to cross out... the Netherworld Book?"
