Dugu Yan is the granddaughter of Poison Douluo Dugu Bo. Both of her parents died before she could see them one last time. Her longing to meet them again brings her to Lu Yan’s dream-service shop, “Heaven,” accompanied by her best friend Ye Lingling 14.

Her family’s snake Martial Soul carries hereditary Green Phosphorus Poison. Its backlash worsens as cultivation increases, and Dugu Bo initially conceals that it killed her parents. Dugu Yan herself occasionally feels unwell but does not understand the cause until Lu Yan identifies the poisoning 21.
