Cai Yinong originally wanted to maintain her composure in front of Zhang Yang, but his unperturbed demeanor, as if everything was under his control, made her unable to hold back.
Zhang Yang was so capable now; he must have seen through some of her intentions. Didn't he fear she would stall the contract and prevent him from playing Cen Chong?
"Sister K is a smart person, why should I be afraid?" Zhang Yang calmly retorted. Before Cai Yinong could speak, he continued, "Signing the contract is a win-win-win. I'll be happy to get the role, Director Chen will be happy to find a suitable and available actor, and Tangren will profit a little, while Sister K, you can build connections with Director Chen through this."
"Not signing is a lose-lose-lose. I'll resent Sister K and the company, Director Chen will think Tangren doesn't do things transparently and will have opinions about you, Tangren will gain nothing, and Sister K, you'll make several enemies."
"Or, am I, Zhang Yang, so outstanding that you'd rather tear our relationship apart and freeze me out for three years, forcing me to renew my contract?"
Cai Yinong fell silent.
With these two scenarios, anyone who wasn't an idiot would know how to choose.
In reality, there were more implications, such as Tangren's reputation within the industry.
Unless Zhang Yang truly offended her severely, she had no reason to freeze him out.
"It seems that after two years of serious study, you've indeed improved a lot, not just in your temperament and acting."
Leaving behind a single sentence, Cai Yinong got into the back seat of the car and told the driver to start.
There was something she didn't say: if Zhang Yang continued to perform so outstandingly, she would find it hard to resist doing something.
Unless Zhang Yang became so outstanding that she couldn't even see his dust, but that was absolutely impossible.
Watching the car disappear around the street corner, Zhang Yang turned and walked into the restaurant, where he saw Nazha standing behind the glass door.
"When did you learn to eavesdrop?" Zhang Yang teased.
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop," Nazha said, walking out with a defiant air, but her eyes held worry. "Brother Yang, what you and Sister K said just now sounded rational, but..."
Zhang Yang stared at Nazha, a smile playing on his lips, anticipating her next words.
"But Sister K is a woman," Nazha said.
Women, sometimes, aren't that rational or logical.
Even though Cai Yinong was a businesswoman, she couldn't help but have her moments of capriciousness.
Zhang Yang nodded gently. "Not bad, you've learned to think."
Nazha blinked her eyes, testing him. "Aren't you afraid?"
"If Sister K isn't rational, then I'll help her be rational," Zhang Yang chuckled. "Have you forgotten how your Zhao Jingniang role was resolved?"
"If Sister K blocks my contract, I'll go sign a contract with Director Chen as a martial arts instructor. Tangren can't control me, and I'll still get paid what I'm owed, plus I can cut out the middleman and earn the difference."
"I can definitely do the stuntman job; I'm the best choice for Director Chen. The only downside is that supporting roles won't have contract protection and will carry certain risks, like Director Chen being able to replace me on a whim. But similarly, I can leave whenever I want, which is still fair to both sides."
"Ultimately, it's just a supporting role. Director Chen has no reason to ruin his reputation. And in terms of stunt work, Director Chen needs me, so I hold the upper hand."
"As for Cai Yinong, she'll just end up trying to steal a chicken and losing the rice."
Nazha: "..."
Being a smart person seemed exhausting.
"I'm just glad you're okay," Nazha said with a smile, changing the subject.
Zhang Yang nodded. "Get some sleep early. You'll be finished with your scenes after the shoot tomorrow morning."
It was quite a memorable occasion, his first role wrap-up.
Nazha nodded her chin, looking forward to it.
The next day.
A nunnery.
Under the gaze of "Zhao Jingniang," Zhang Yang left with a sense of loss.
"Flowers fall with affection, but the water flows without intent, a unrequited deep love."
"Sister Ya Ya, I'm like you in the end."
"Cut!"
Lin Feng shouted.
"Let's congratulate Nazha on finishing her scenes," Lin Feng led the applause.
The crew members present joined in, giving face.
During their time together, the fair-skinned, beautiful, but endearingly clumsy Nazha had won them over. Moreover, Zhang Yang, who was very good at handling people, often treated them to snacks and fruit.
"Junior Sister, congratulations."
Zhang Yang took out a box he had prepared earlier.
"What's this?" Nazha took it and opened it, finding several photos inside.
The photos were of her and Zhang Yang in costume, as well as a group photo of their small crew. Dates were written on the back of each photo, March 28th.
Very commemorative.
"Thank you, Brother Yang," Nazha said with a sweet smile, her eyes revealing her emotions without any attempt to hide them.
Zhang Yang seemed not to notice, chuckling, "You're done, but I'm not. From now on, you'll continue to be my assistant as a guest star."
"I'll definitely perform well," Nazha said, having no objections.
Next came the busy daily routine of filming.
On the afternoon of the second day, Zhang Yang's scenes were all completed, and his character's filming was wrapped up.
Lin Ziwei was very generous and invited him and Nazha to dinner, calling it a wrap party for their roles.
"When the whole crew wraps up, you must come to the banquet," Lin Ziwei invited Zhang Yang.
Zhang Yang, of course, wouldn't refuse an opportunity like this to expand his network, and readily agreed.
The next morning, he checked out of the hotel arranged by the crew of The Legend of Dugu and then found the logistics staff of The Four Great Constables crew to check in to their assigned hotel.
Glancing at the time, Zhang Yang called Nazha, "Let's go buy some medicine for bruises and sprains, especially the red oil."
"Is The Four Great Constables a wuxia film? Are there a lot of fight scenes?" Nazha asked a rather silly question.
Zhang Yang didn't scold her and patiently explained, "Director Chen is using a lot of wire-fu shots for this film, which can easily lead to strains and contusions. If they aren't treated immediately, they'll become chronic injuries."
Nazha nodded thoughtfully, thinking to herself that action films were really not easy to make.
Zhang Yang took Nazha to a nearby pharmacy to buy the necessary medication and then reported to the crew immediately.
Upon entering the set, the crew was filming a fight scene for "Zhui Ming," played by Hong Kong artist Zheng Zhongji.
Zhang Yang didn't rashly go forward to disturb them. He scanned his surroundings and walked towards a photography studio.
[Time: March 29th, 10:21 AM Location: Hengdian World Studios, Area XX, Studio No. XX Guide: (To be unlocked / 1 Character Point)]
This was an opportunity event that had refreshed yesterday morning.
After his investigation, he knew it was within the crew of The Four Great Constables.
He hadn't used Character Points to unlock it, wanting to see if he could resolve it using his own methods.
Arriving outside the studio, he grabbed a nearby staff member and asked, "Is this the actor's rest area?"
The other person sized Zhang Yang up for a moment and nodded, "Yes, but it's the actresses' rest area. The male actors are across the way."
As they spoke, the person pointed to a studio opposite the one they were at.
Zhang Yang: "..."
He should have just walked in directly if he had known.
"Thank you."
Though his heart ached, Zhang Yang politely thanked them.
Just then, someone parted the studio curtain and walked out from inside.
Zhang Yang subconsciously sized up the person and found a well-dressed woman with an excellent aura.
His eyes suddenly lit up: "It's like wishing for a pillow when you're sleepy."
