James Glenn opened his mouth, intending to argue that he would serve the BIG Pirates with complete devotion, but Mousse immediately asked him:

"What can you use to guarantee that you won't betray us? Your mouth? You want our family to put in that much effort for you without offering any real benefit at all? You're just a starving dog dreaming of meat pies!"

"Back in Pharaohs, you clearly..."

James Glenn was utterly aggrieved. He had resolved to come to Totto Land and join the BIG Pirates not only because of Charlotte Linlin's terrifying record, but also because he had forged goodwill with Katakuri and his group before.

Who could have known that they would suddenly turn their backs on their previous agreement?

But Mousse shook his head when he heard that.

"Back then, your country still existed. We only needed to help you repel Marine incursions. Now, though, we'd need to help you restore your country. We'd have to wipe out or drive away every Marine on the island, including Garp, not merely hold them back. The difficulty of the two is on completely different levels, so naturally the price you need to pay is different as well."

In his desperation, James Glenn drew a dagger and tried to chop off a finger to prove his resolve, but Mousse showed no sympathy at all and turned his action into a meaningless act of folly.

"What's the point of chopping off a finger? We don't need it. If you want Mama to help, then offer something that can actually tempt us. The key is benefit, understand?"

"Could we wait until Pharaohs is restored before..." James Glenn instinctively began to answer, but stopped halfway through because that was still just the same old thing in a different package.
