Ch. 161Vegapunk Is Astonished (Part 2)

Vegapunk, traveling under the alias “Beck,” learned from an old resident that Totto Land provided free housing, food, and other necessities in exchange for a modest soul tax. Intrigued by the island’s recruitment of scientists, he considered applying to work for Charlotte Perospero while keeping his abilities secret.

  • The old man explained Totto Land’s laws for disciplining children and its reduced penalties for teenagers.
  • The old man described the free housing and food, and said bedding and clothing would also be supplied for free.
  • He explained that loyal residents paid soul tax once a year, while returning residents who had abandoned Totto Land paid twice a year.
  • Vegapunk learned that working for the BIG Pirates could exempt people from soul tax and that the crew recruited scientific and technical talent.
  • After learning that Vegapunk was a scientist, the old man warned him not to deceive Charlotte Perospero, and Vegapunk decided to keep his abilities hidden.
  • The old man praised Charlotte Perospero for rebuilding Candy Island’s facilities within a day, including those damaged by children.

Ch. 162Vegapunk's Astonishment (Part 2)

Vegapunk learned more about life and work in Totto Land while considering whether to join the pirate crew. He took Mousse’s difficult extra questions seriously, leaving Charlotte Perospero wondering whether Vegapunk might help solve problems that had stumped Mousse.

  • An old man warned Vegapunk that joining the crew would make leaving an act of desertion, advised him not to live on Whole Cake Island, and explained Candy Island’s housing and medical conditions.
  • The old man described Mousse’s influence and urged residents to exercise, prompting Vegapunk to wonder whether the young prince was a prodigy.
  • Vegapunk recognized the significance of Totto Land’s widely used gyroscope and was disappointed by the easy opening questions on his written examination.
  • Vegapunk reached Mousse’s three extra questions about inheritance, removing Devil Fruit powers, and simulating gravity, and began answering them.
  • Charlotte Perospero saw Vegapunk working on Mousse’s questions and wondered whether he had guessed their answers.

Ch. 163Differences in Ideology

Vegapunk passed Charlotte Perospero’s scientific tests and learned that Perospero valued affordable, widely usable technology. Meanwhile, Mousse argued with Dr. Clover that Ohara should spread its knowledge broadly to protect it, but Clover rejected his warning about the World Government.

  • Vegapunk answered the written questions correctly, then disassembled and reassembled Mousse’s gyroscope in fifteen minutes and proposed improvements.
  • Charlotte Perospero admired Vegapunk’s design but questioned its cost and manufacturing time, revealing his priority was making technology accessible.
  • Vegapunk recognized that Perospero’s focus on affordability and widespread use differed from the prevailing scientific culture.
  • Mousse urged Dr. Clover to spread Ohara’s knowledge around the world so the World Government could not silence it by killing a few scholars.
  • Dr. Clover insisted that knowledge could not be passed on casually and dismissed the possibility that the World Government would destroy Ohara and its scholars.

Ch. 164Take It If It's Free

Mousse let Big Head merge with the Poneglyph hidden beneath the Tree of Knowledge, despite Dr. Clover’s objections. After Big Head transformed into Amon, Mousse demanded access to both Poneglyphs so he could decipher them himself before leaving Ohara.

  • Mousse persuaded Dr. Clover to open the underground chamber so he could test his ability to read the Poneglyph.
  • Big Head merged with the chamber’s Poneglyph while Dr. Clover tried to stop them, and Mousse froze Dr. Clover into an ice sculpture.
  • Big Head emerged with a small body and limbs, and Mousse renamed it Amon after recognizing its resemblance to Doraemon.
  • Mousse thawed Dr. Clover unharmed, then threatened consequences unless he could decipher both Poneglyphs himself.

Ch. 165Unable to Stand By

After discovering that Dr. Clover had withheld key parts of the Poneglyph translation method, Mousse learned the complete process while Nico Robin trained as a historian. When Robin revealed she had seen a giant by the shore, Mousse suspected the Ohara Incident was beginning and set out with her to find him.

  • Mousse confronted Dr. Clover about withholding information, then used a Poneglyph as a test to ensure the scholar translated it accurately.
  • By late May, Nico Robin had become a certified historian, but Ohara denied her permission to join Poneglyph research, and she ran home crying.
  • Robin told Mousse she had seen a giant by the shore, convincing him that the Ohara Incident was underway.
  • Mousse decided he could not abandon Robin and persuaded her that helping the hungry giant would not break her promise to keep him secret.
  • Amon flew Mousse and Robin to the shore, and Mousse sent him to retrieve Compressed Biscuits before they followed Robin's directions to search for Jaguar D. Saul.

Ch. 166Tamed Giant

Mousse and Nico Robin found Jaguar D. Saul hiding underwater, and Mousse fed him Compressed Biscuits before Amon caught a Sea King for their meal. As they talked, Mousse learned Saul knew little about the Giants’ hatred of Charlotte Linlin and came to see him as a Giant whose values were closer to humans; Mousse remained unsure whether to take Saul to Totto Land.

  • Mousse used Observation Haki to find Jaguar D. Saul hiding beneath sargassum after Robin could not locate him.
  • Mousse explained Robin had brought him to help feed Saul and gave the Giant Compressed Biscuits, which he gratefully ate.
  • Amon caught and brought back an enormous Sea King, impressing Saul and prompting him to speak more with Mousse during the fish roast.
  • Mousse asked Saul why the Giants hated Charlotte Linlin, but Saul said he knew only that Elbaf’s Giants despised her and admitted he had little interest in them.
  • Mousse considered Saul a humanized Giant with values closer to humans and remained undecided about bringing him to Totto Land.

Ch. 167Personal Action

Charlotte Mousse decided not to risk transporting Jaguar D. Saul to Totto Land, then learned that Saul recognized Nico Robin as Nico Olvia’s daughter and warned that the Marine fleet was approaching Ohara. Mousse revealed he intended to attack the fleet on his own, leaving Saul alarmed and skeptical.

  • Charlotte Mousse weighed the risks of bringing Jaguar D. Saul to Totto Land and chose to leave his return to fate.
  • Jaguar D. Saul recognized Nico Robin as Nico Olvia’s daughter and urged her to warn the scholars that the Marine fleet was coming.
  • Mousse asked where the fleet was, and Saul admitted he did not know its location.
  • Mousse said he planned to strike the Marine fleet before it reached Ohara, and Saul realized Mousse was likely Charlotte Linlin’s son.
  • Saul argued that another war would endanger innocent people, while Mousse insisted the attack was his personal action.

Ch. 168First Strike (Part 1)

Mousse sent Amon to watch for Navy ships and destroy them before they reached Ohara, while Spandine led a raid force aboard a Navy battleship. Amon spotted the lone ship and attacked, leaving the Marines and CP9 agents scrambling to stop it.

  • Mousse had Amon patrol the sky in scroll form and ordered it to take its humanoid form before attacking any Navy warship.
  • Amon spent two days dancing in the sky before spotting a Navy warship heading toward Ohara and diving toward it.
  • Spandine and his subordinates saw Amon approaching and realized it was charging at their battleship.
  • A Marine Rear Admiral used Geppo to intercept Amon, but its impact shattered much of his leg and sent him plunging into the sea.
  • Two CP9 agents and several officers tried to kick Amon from the side to change its trajectory.

Ch. 169The One Who Strikes First Has the Advantage (Part 2)

Amon struck back against the Navy officers, then pierced the Navy Main Battleship and sank it, leaving Spandine and two CP0 subordinates stranded at sea. The subordinates found a plank, but Spandine’s condition deteriorated until he was near death.

  • Amon struck a Navy lieutenant commander, used him to knock into two other officers, and escaped their pursuit.
  • Amon crashed through the Navy Main Battleship, tore a huge hole through its hull, and helped sink it.
  • Spandine was swept into the whirlpool, but two CP0 subordinates rescued him and dragged him away from the sinking ship.
  • The two subordinates returned to the wreck site, found a large plank, and tried to make Spandine vomit up the seawater he had swallowed.
  • Spandine suffered worsening dehydration and became close to death within a few days.

Ch. 170Spandine's Death

After learning that the World Government planned to destroy Ohara, Dr. Clover and the scholars debated whether to flee or remain and protect their home. They chose to preserve the library and its research, while preparing to smuggle away irreplaceable books and leaving Nico Olvia’s escape unresolved.

  • Spandine’s body was hauled to an island by two CP9 agents, while the Five Elders focused on the lost Golden Den Den Mushi and the delay to the attack on Ohara.
  • Mousse and Robin warned Dr. Clover about the World Government’s actions, and Nico Olvia returned to the Tree of Knowledge, convincing him the threat was real.
  • Nico Olvia argued that Dr. Clover should not wait for the World Government, but he explained that the Poneglyph was gone and the scholars could move their research records.
  • Mousse refused to reveal what happened to the Poneglyph, so Dr. Clover told the scholars that the Roger Pirates had taken it.
  • Dr. Clover persuaded many scholars to remain in Ohara to avoid appearing guilty and to preserve the library and Tree of Knowledge.
  • Dr. Clover arranged for Olvia and other scholars to carry away the most valuable books, while Mousse watched silently and expected Robin to leave with her mother.

Ch. 171Let's Go to the Flower Kingdom

Dr. Clover proposed hiding Ohara’s fleeing scholars in the Flower Kingdom, where the World Government would struggle to hunt them down. Nico Olvia and Robin prepared to go there, while Mousse stayed behind with Dr. Clover to discuss the Poneglyph on Amon.

  • Dr. Clover explained Ohara’s former ties to the Flower Kingdom and why its isolation made it a possible refuge from the World Government.
  • Dr. Clover set out disguise requirements for the scholars, and he and Mousse decided they could pose as monks and nuns after shaving their heads.
  • Nico Olvia was chosen to go because she was wanted by the World Government and knew the Flower Kingdom’s language and writing.
  • Robin asked to accompany her mother, and Mousse convinced Olvia that taking her would be safer than leaving her on Ohara.
  • Olvia and Robin left to dye their hair, while Mousse stayed with Dr. Clover and followed him into the empty underground chamber.

Ch. 172Just the Prologue

Mousse discussed the dangers and purpose of historical research with Dr. Clover, then learned what the scholars had deciphered from a Poneglyph. They speculated that the nine story Poneglyphs might describe separate stories, leaving Mousse to seek the full truth at Laugh Tale.

  • Mousse used his power to make a rubbing of the Poneglyph and told Dr. Clover that the World Government would not spare the scholars.
  • Mousse challenged Dr. Clover to consider whether revealing history was right or wrong depending on one's political allegiance.
  • Dr. Clover regained his resolve and shared the scholars' deciphered information about the Poneglyphs with Mousse.
  • Mousse realized the inscription described the Great Kingdom's prosperity but did not explain its destruction.
  • Mousse proposed that the nine story Poneglyphs might introduce separate stories, and Dr. Clover agreed that the whole truth might only be found at Laugh Tale.

Ch. 173Buster Call

Mousse prepared to take Nico Olvia and Nico Robin to the Flower Kingdom while helping Ohara’s scholars and residents escape. The World Government ordered a Buster Call before the evacuation ship could leave, forcing Dr. Clover to urge the departing scholars to preserve Ohara’s scholarly inheritance.

  • Mousse opposed Nico Olvia’s plan to warn her brother and proposed faking an earthquake and volcanic threat to evacuate Ohara’s residents.
  • The Five Elders ordered Sengoku to launch a Buster Call against Ohara without waiting for Spandine’s report, and ten Navy battleships set sail.
  • Mousse’s earthquake panic prompted residents and some scholars to board an evacuation ship while Nico Olvia and the scholars planning to flee prepared to leave separately by small boat.
  • Amon warned Mousse that the Navy fleet had arrived before the evacuation ship could depart, and Mousse confronted Dr. Clover and the scholars staying behind.
  • Dr. Clover urged the departing scholars to escape with Ohara’s scholarly inheritance.

Ch. 174Power of the Giants

Mousse helped Jaguar D. Saul evacuate Nico Olvia, Nico Robin, and the fleeing Ohara scholars by raft toward the Flower Kingdom while Amon watched the Navy fleet. The Navy’s bombardment destroyed Ohara’s Tree of Knowledge and killed the scholars who had stayed behind, leaving the evacuees grieving as they escaped.

  • Mousse persuaded Jaguar D. Saul to take the scholars and children to the Flower Kingdom on his raft, and Saul agreed after Mousse dismissed his concerns about being recognized.
  • Mousse explained that Amon was monitoring the Navy fleet and had orders to attack if the fleet caught up before the raft escaped.
  • Saul rowed the raft for more than four hours, carrying the evacuees over a hundred kilometers from Ohara before Mousse told him to rest.
  • Mousse reflected on the Giants’ immense strength and how it made Elbaf a powerful nation.
  • The Navy fleet opened fire on Ohara, destroying the Tree of Knowledge and killing the historians who had remained behind.
  • Nico Olvia and the other evacuees heard the distant cannon fire and wept, while Nico Robin mourned Dr. Clover and the others.

Ch. 175Skyscraper Giant

Amon transformed into a skyscraper-sized Rock Giant and charged the Navy fleet, turning the bombardment of Ohara into a desperate battle. Onigumo and the other commanders confronted the giant as Alexander tried to keep the fleet together.

  • Mousse urged Amon to make the Navy answer for Ohara, and Amon emerged as a Rock Giant over five hundred meters tall.
  • Alexander ordered the warships to withdraw and fire every gun that could target the approaching giant.
  • A frightened Marine tried to flee, but Onigumo killed him and then charged at Amon using Geppo.
  • Onigumo's adjutant rallied the ship's crew, and the fleet's officers and soldiers resumed their duties.
  • The Navy Vice Admirals and Rear Admirals, apart from Alexander, left their ships to confront Amon, lifting their crews' morale.

Ch. 176First Strike the Ships (Part 1)

Amon used the Rock Giant to press the Marine fleet while the officers’ attacks failed to stop its advance. The Rock Giant hurled a massive stone fist into a Navy Main Battleship, leaving it wrecked and its crew fleeing.

  • Onigumo and the other Marine officers repeatedly shattered the Rock Giant, but it quickly reformed and kept walking toward the fleet.
  • Alexander identified the Stone-Stone Fruit’s power and told the officers to find and defeat the person controlling the rocks.
  • Onigumo realized the Rock Giant had left the officers behind and was still closing in on the Navy Main Battleships.
  • The Marine ships scattered to escape, but the Rock Giant detached and hurled a huge stone fist at one fleeing ship.
  • The stone fist smashed the ship’s rear apart and left its front section broken and overturned in the sea.

Ch. 177First Attack the Ships (Part 2)

Amon used the Rock Giant to devastate the Navy Buster Call fleet, sinking or crushing several battleships while shrugging off their bombardment. After a Marine colonel briefly damaged the giant, Amon killed him with a surprise attack and destroyed his ship, leaving the remaining fleet in chaos.

  • The Rock Giant regenerated its fists, caught up to Navy battleships, and destroyed several with punches and a stomp.
  • Terrified Navy personnel jumped overboard or fled, while a few officers turned to fire at the giant; their shells left it unharmed.
  • Amon prioritized fleeing ships, and the Rock Giant sank another battleship with a flying stone fist.
  • A Marine colonel leaped from a targeted ship and cut the incoming stone fist and the giant's foot into rubble.
  • Amon secretly moved his Scroll-form body to the giant's lower leg and killed the colonel with a surprise slash.
  • The Rock Giant re-formed and stomped the colonel's ship, crushing everyone aboard.

Ch. 178Killing Again (Part 1)

Amon used the Rock Giant and His own extraordinary speed to ambush the Marines, killing four high-ranking officers in rapid succession. With Amon hidden beneath the deck and Marine Rear Admiral Kake warning the survivors to watch below, the remaining Marines faced an unseen attacker.

  • Amon left one Navy Main Battleship afloat and used the Rock Giant to lure the Marine generals into intercepting Him.
  • Amon killed the first general, then swiftly cut down a Navy Vice Admiral before the Marines could react.
  • Amon struck a third general on the head; despite Tekkai and Armament Haki, the split skull proved fatal.
  • Alexander and Kake reacted with horror as Kake realized Observation Haki could barely sense Amon and that He had disappeared beneath the deck.
  • Kake shouted a warning, but Amon killed Doberman with an upward strike from below the deck.

Ch. 179Killing Again (Part 2)

After Amon killed Marine Rear Admiral Doberman, he killed Alexander and Marine Rear Admiral Kake, leaving the Buster Call forces in crisis. Sengoku tried to summon Borsalino for help, but learned that the Marine Admiral had gone on vacation without his Den Den Mushi.

  • Alexander ordered the Marines to request immediate reinforcements from Marineford as Amon attacked him.
  • Amon evaded Marine Rear Admiral Kake and killed Alexander, then Kake seized the Scroll and tried to tear it apart.
  • Amon dragged Kake into the air, trapped him inside the Scroll, and drowned him at sea.
  • The surviving Marines contacted Sengoku, who called Borsalino for help with the crisis.
  • Sengoku learned that Borsalino had left on a long trip without his Den Den Mushi and realized he was avoiding further summons.

Ch. 180Kill Again (Part 2)

After Amon destroyed the Buster Call fleet, Marine Headquarters struggled to replace its lost officers, and the deaths of Kake and the other generals changed the paths of Issho and Gion. Issho joined the Marines early, while Gion began training in earnest, driven by grief and fear of the unknown enemy.

  • Amon caught the fleeing warship and killed another general, leaving the Buster Call fleet with no surviving ships and none of its ten generals alive.
  • The attack killed most of the nearly ten thousand Marines involved, leaving only a few hundred survivors and deepening Marine Headquarters' losses after Branch G1's destruction.
  • Following Sengoku's suggestion, the Five Elders transferred qualified personnel from other World Government agencies to fill Marine vacancies.
  • Issho left his post as Impel Down's sixth-level chief guard and joined Marine Headquarters as a rear admiral after Kake's death.
  • Gion grieved Kake, realized the unknown killer might threaten her too, and devoted herself to training and battle.
