Hearing Chang Ping's outrageous words, Xiao Ning'er was so angry she nearly spat blood.
She hadn't wanted things to turn out this way, either!
"Chang Ping, thank you for saving me." Xiao Ning'er thanked him for saving her life as she put on the oversized robe.
His words had been infuriating, but she still had to thank him. If he hadn't arrived in time, her life might have been in danger.
Come to think of it, what had Chang Ping been eating to get so fit? He even had a six-pack.
Xiao Ning'er swallowed quietly.
"Bronze-rank Fighters have four abs, Silver-rank Fighters have six, and Gold-rank Fighters have eight..." Xiao Ning'er was stunned. She hadn't expected Chang Ping to really be a Gold-rank Fighter. Her assessment just now had been right.
If he had already reached Gold rank, wouldn't he have reached Black Gold or even Legend rank by the time he graduated?
It was astonishing.

Chang Ping mischievously took out his Simple Camera, snapped a picture of Ning'er's embarrassed state, printed it, and handed it to her.
In the photo, Xiao Ning'er wore an oversized robe, her little face red as a monkey's bottom. It was hilarious.
"No need to thank me!" Chang Ping waved generously. "If you died, there'd be no one to help me buy Purple Mist Grass. Don't get the wrong idea—I didn't save you because I have a crush on you." Chang Ping felt a little uneasy. Why had he blurted out the truth?
Wasn't that just drawing attention to what he was trying to hide?
Chang Ping covered his mouth with a fist, coughed, then walked over to Xiao Ning'er and picked up the Great Rock Python's corpse.
With a thud, he smashed the Great Rock Python's hard skull with a punch, dug out a thumb-sized, ochre demon crystal, and casually tossed it by Xiao Ning'er's feet.
He conjured a straw out of thin air, stuck it into a fist-sized hole, and slurped down the Great Rock Python's brains in great gulps.
Xiao Ning'er retched and threw up.
That was way too disgusting!
Her young heart had been deeply traumatized.
Even more horrifying, Chang Ping actually crawled into the Great Rock Python's skull and began devouring its organs from the inside.
In less than the time it took for an incense stick to burn, he had eaten the Great Rock Python until only a hollow stone shell remained.
"Eat this!" Chang Ping crawled out of the shell, holding a snake gallbladder the size of an ostrich egg, and offered it to Xiao Ning'er.
She had been swallowed by the Great Rock Python and must have inhaled a lot of its poisonous fumes. The gallbladder had some detoxifying properties, so it should help her.
To his surprise, Xiao Ning'er shook her head. "Thanks, but no. You can keep it and eat it yourself."
The poisonous fumes had made her chest feel tight, but she could bear it. There was no need to eat something so bloody and disgusting.
Chang Ping gave a derisive snort. She was acting all fussy now.
"If you won't eat it, I will!" Chang Ping glanced at Xiao Ning'er and swallowed the entire gallbladder in two or three bites, like someone eating a persimmon.
"Ahh, that hit the spot—"
Chang Ping let out a satisfied shout.
Seeing Xiao Ning'er sitting on the ground, clutching her chest with a pained expression, Chang Ping gritted his teeth and redeemed a box of Pheobe Detoxifying Ointment from the shop.
It was an ointment for treating putrefactive poison. Like medicated balm, it could be dabbed on the temples to refresh the mind and neutralize the putrefactive poison in the body.
Chang Ping worried to himself, "Xiao Ning'er is so unlucky. First she got cold poison, and now she's got putrefactive poison. Good thing the Great Rock Python didn't have fangs, or..." Could this girl be especially prone to poisoning?
Poor girl.
"Here!" Chang Ping handed Xiao Ning'er the small, round box of ointment and explained what it did and how to use it.
Having been saved by Chang Ping, she had let her guard down completely. She unscrewed the lid, scooped out a dollop of ointment, and rubbed it on her temples.
"Hm?" Xiao Ning'er's eyes lit up.
A cool sensation swept through her body, and the tightness in her chest soon disappeared. The effect was immediate.
"Chang Ping, where do you get all these amazing medicines?" she asked curiously.
"I'm not telling you!" Chang Ping folded his arms, lifted his chin, and snorted twice. "You keep suspecting I'm going to hurt you. I'm mad now. I'm not playing with you anymore."
Having listed Xiao Ning'er's offenses, Chang Ping turned and walked away, leaving her sitting awkwardly by herself in the grass.
"Wait for me! I'm leaving with you!" Xiao Ning'er got to her feet, dusted off her backside, and hurried after him.
Now she understood that Chang Ping wasn't a bad person.
Although Chang Ping had told Xiao Ning'er to stay away from him, he still escorted her all the way back to the girls' dormitory.
"Chang Ping, thank you for walking me back. You're a good person." Xiao Ning'er bowed solemnly to him.
"I'm not a good person!" Chang Ping planted his hands on his hips and snorted. "Don't forget to collect Purple Mist Grass for me tomorrow." After reminding Xiao Ning'er coldly, Chang Ping turned and headed back to his dorm.
Xiao Ning'er smiled awkwardly. She hadn't expected Chang Ping to be so petty.
But why wasn't he heading toward the boys' dormitory? Why was he going toward the instructors' dormitory instead?
Gradually, Chang Ping's imposing figure disappeared into the heavy darkness of the night. For some reason, as soon as he left, she felt strangely empty inside.
The night was as black as a bottomless abyss.
Instructors' dormitory, Room 521.
By the time Chang Ping returned, Shen Xiu was already asleep. Still, she had left the door unlocked for him.
But he wasn't grateful.
"What a fool! What if another man came in and tried something?" Chang Ping muttered softly as he pushed the door open and slid the bolt into place behind him.
Shen Xiu's ear twitched on the bed. Hearing Chang Ping's familiar voice, she felt a rush of joy.
She hadn't actually fallen asleep. She had been waiting for Chang Ping to come back.
Suddenly, she smelled something foul.
"Did you fall into a latrine?" Shen Xiu pinched her nose, rolled over, and challenged the shadow standing with his back to the moonlight.
Come to think of it, why did Chang Ping always smell so strange?
Last time it had been mutton. This time it was a rotting stench.
What had he been doing?
Chang Ping didn't answer Shen Xiu's question. Instead, he asked her, "Did you wash my clothes?" His pants and shoes were dirty now, and the Great Rock Python's stomach acid had eaten several large holes in them. He definitely wouldn't be able to wear them tomorrow.
"I did. They're hanging on the clothesline to dry," Shen Xiu answered honestly. She wouldn't dare neglect something Chang Ping had ordered her to do.
If she angered him, she'd inevitably get disciplined with a stick.
"Good. You know what's best for you." Chang Ping snorted and ordered, "Take out the tub and shampoo. I'm going to take a bath."
"The washroom is closed now, and there's no hot water," Shen Xiu reminded him.
Why did he have to use her shampoo? Didn't he have his own?
"No hot water? Then I'll take a cold bath. Stop talking and hurry up with the tub!" Chang Ping paused, then asked Shen Xiu, "By the way, do you want to bathe with me?"
"No! I'm afraid of the cold!" Shen Xiu gritted her teeth as she took her precious shampoo out of her Space Ring, her heart aching as if it were being cut.
