Derivation

Wuyi Mountain, Dawang Peak.

Dawang Peak was also known as Shamao Rock and Tianzhu Peak. It was named for its shape, resembling an official's gauze hat and possessing the majestic bearing of a king.

Located on the west side of the Ten-Thousand-Year Palace, it towered over the mouth of Nine-Bend Stream and was the first peak one encountered upon entering Wuyi Mountain.

Broad at the top and narrow at the bottom, it was imposing and magnificent. From afar, it resembled a colossal pillar holding up the sky. Among Wuyi's Thirty-Six Peaks, it had long been known as the "King of Immortal Ravines."

Ancient trees soared from its summit, where scenic sites such as Tianjian Pond, Dragon-Throwing Cave, Immortal Crane Rock, and the ruins of Shengzhen Temple could be found.

The southern face was a sheer cliff, with only a narrow passage allowing people to reach the summit. It was a vertical fissure barely a foot wide, with stone steps carved into it, winding upward in a spiral.

The higher the fissure rose, the narrower it became. In some places, climbers had to turn sideways, draw in their stomachs, and use both hands and feet to squeeze through.

A figure silently appeared on Zhangxian Rock halfway up the peak. It was Zheng Sen, who had rushed over from Anping County. His gaze was sharp as he looked beneath the massive rock.

Legend had it that Zhangxian Rock was where Zhang Gai of the Han dynasty had passed away in meditation. Zheng Sen did find a hint of a clue. He reached out and thrust his hand into empty space.

Hidden deep within Zhangxian Rock was Zhangxian Cave. Inside lay not only Zhang Gai's corpse, but also three rolls of purple bamboo slips and a jade box.
