Background / History

Tang San grew up in Sacred Soul Village as Tang Hao's son. He secretly cultivated Tang Sect techniques, including the Mysterious Heaven Skill, and displayed unusual skills such as cooking and blacksmithing; Tang Hao had already noticed that he was abnormal. 1 Tang Hao later acknowledged him as his son after Tang San awakened the Clear Sky Hammer. 6

Although he and Lin Xuan awakened the same outward Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul, Tang San treated Lin Xuan coldly from childhood and grew suspicious of Lin Xuan's Hundred Refinements Tungsten Steel Hammers. He wanted the rare tools for himself, but Tang Hao dismissed his claim that they had been stolen. 2 11

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power made him highly sought after despite his Blue Silver Grass being considered a poor Martial Soul. Yu Xiaogang became his teacher and encouraged him to rely on Soul Power and his potential rather than Lin Xuan's physical strength. 13 19

Appearance

By the time of his Rakshasa God trials, Tang San's depleted body had aged him into the appearance of an old man, with a life fire nearing extinction. 319 320

  • His Clear Sky Hammer becomes marked by a purplish-black, evil aura after Bibi Dong's Evil Transformation. 207
  • While using Fallen Power, he manifests a pitch-black Clear Sky Hammer and five pitch-black Soul Rings. 354
  • His altered aura and aged condition initially prevent others from recognizing him. 319 320

Personality

Tang San is proud, competitive, and intensely unwilling to accept defeat by Lin Xuan. Following their first major fight, he rejects the idea that he had truly lost, fixating on hidden weapons and revenge rather than ordinary cultivation. 28 His desire to surpass Lin Xuan repeatedly drives him to challenge stronger opponents, endure injury, and pursue increasingly dangerous methods. 31 39

His fear of Lin Xuan later turns him isolated, paranoid, and psychologically unstable. He confines himself to Nuoding Academy, senses danger everywhere, and becomes increasingly grim while his cultivation is suppressed. 79 81 Once given access to devouring power, he becomes willing to deceive, poison, capture, and absorb fellow Clear Sky Sect members for faster advancement. 248 252
