Background / History

Tang San studied under Yu Xiaogang at Shrek Academy and placed deep trust in his teacher’s theories. Even after seeing Supreme Academy’s strength, he refused Xiao Wu’s suggestion to change academies because he considered loyalty to his teacher a matter of principle 24.

His relationship with Xiao Wu deteriorated after she became increasingly distant and ultimately withdrew from Shrek. Tang San’s resulting resentment caused a period of stagnation in his cultivation, for which Yu Xiaogang reprimanded him 35. Xiao Wu later told him that her decision was voluntary and that he would remain her “Third Brother,” but Tang San could not accept her closeness to Lin Feng 53.

During a Soul Ring hunt in the Star Dou Great Forest, he absorbed the Ghost-faced Spider’s Soul Ring and gained the External Soul Bone known as the Eight Spider Lances 62. He subsequently advanced rapidly through cultivation, hidden-weapon development, and opportunities associated with his protagonist-like fortune 106 177.

Tang San repeatedly sensed familiarity from A Lan, unaware that she was Ah Yin, his mother in a new human form 125 250. After Tang Hao revealed his feud with Lin Feng—claiming Lin Feng had taken his inherited Soul Bone and imprisoned Ah Yin—Tang San’s hatred toward Lin Feng intensified, despite Xiao Wu’s attempt to refute Tang Hao’s account 250.

Following defeat by Xiao Wu and a series of setbacks, Tang San concluded that Yu Xiaogang was no longer suitable as his teacher. He left to find Tang Hao, who subjected him to harsh training and intended to pass down the Clear Sky Sect’s ultimate skills 287 308.

After finding Tang Hao’s remains, Tang San was consumed by grief and accepted the Rakshasa God’s power. He rebuilt a Rakshasa temple, fed upon resentment, and became a monstrous avenger obsessed with killing Lin Feng and reclaiming Xiao Wu 402.

Appearance

Tang San’s ordinary appearance is not substantially described in the available material. His Rakshasa-corrupted form is markedly altered.

  • Blood-red hair, formerly blue 402
  • Pale, paper-white complexion and eerie black lips 402
  • Dark-red runes covering his upper body 402
  • Blackened, blade-like fingernails 403
  • Wears Tang Hao’s black robe while acting as the Soul Eater Ghost 403

Personality

Tang San is initially characterized by discipline, pride, and a strong attachment to Yu Xiaogang’s guidance. He sees himself as someone who honors teachers and promises, refusing to leave Shrek even when presented with proof that Supreme Academy is stronger 24.

His separation from Xiao Wu reveals a possessive and increasingly unstable side. He interprets her independent choice as betrayal, watches her from afar, and allows resentment to interfere with his cultivation 35 40 53.

Later failures make him more introspective; after the tournament, he recognizes that his competitive fixation on Xiao Wu and confidence in Yu Xiaogang had led him astray 287. This maturity does not last. Tang Hao’s revelations and the destruction surrounding the Clear Sky Sect redirect Tang San into hatred and revenge 250 323.

As the Rakshasa inheritor, he becomes cruel, bloodthirsty, and obsessive. He treats victims as nourishment, seeks power regardless of cost, and intends to force Xiao Wu to remain with him after achieving revenge 402 403.
