Background / History
Horio was originally an adult and an unknown newcomer to tennis. After falling asleep from exhaustion following training, he awoke as an infant in another world and was named Horio Satoshi. A system bound four talents to him and modified his body into a “flawless” physical state; determined not to become like the unimpressive Horio he remembered from The Prince of Tennis, he trained from childhood. 1
Although he wanted to attend school in Kanagawa after elementary school, his father—an alumnus of Seigaku—ensured that he enrolled at Seigaku Academy instead. On his first day, Horio met Echizen Ryoma, became his classmate, and immediately took an interest in the talented players around him. 1
He entered Seigaku’s regular lineup after the internal ranking matches and rapidly became a central force in the team. Beyond competing, Horio began assessing teammates’ weaknesses, planning individualized training, and pushing the club toward national and international-level tennis. 9 39 40
Appearance
Horio is introduced as a sunny-looking first-year wearing Seigaku’s black uniform. He is around 1.6 meters tall at the start of the story and has trained his body extensively since childhood. 1
- Slightly long brown hair. 1
- A notably athletic, system-enhanced physique. 1
- Purple-gold pupils when using Radiant Talent and related perception abilities. 175 222
- Often carries multiple rackets due to the strain his high-power returns place on his equipment. 359 361
Personality
Horio is exceptionally confident, ambitious, and direct. He intends to conquer junior tennis and eventually compete on the world stage, treating even his own strongest techniques as incomplete works that must be refined. 1 33
He is blunt enough to alienate people, particularly when he considers them distracting, arrogant, or disrespectful toward tennis. He despises bullying, cheating, intentionally harmful play, and treating tennis as a tool to turn players into “machines.” 4 62 118
Despite his abrasive manner, Horio is attentive to the growth and wellbeing of others. He lends Ryoma his racket when Arai hides Ryoma’s, tells Tezuka to recover his arm before playing, trains Katsuro and Katsuo for their future careers, and repeatedly pushes rivals such as Akutsu, Kintaro, and Kite to confront their weaknesses. 4 9 52 69 355
