Although elves were scarce in places where wizards gathered, they were not exactly rare. Every so often, something about them would make its way into circulation.

Arthur's mother had left him a badge engraved with a Purple Bird and a moon.

According to the academy's library, the moon represented the bloodline of the Ancient Moon Elves, one of the original royal bloodlines of the elves.

A badge bearing only a silver moon usually denoted the Elf Royal Family. If it bore another symbol alongside the moon, it generally indicated a branch of the royal bloodline.

From this, Arthur could roughly infer that his mother belonged to a branch of the Moon Elf royal family and carried some of its bloodline.

The reason for Arthur's affinity with the Light Element and the Plant Element likely lay in that heritage.

Still, it was nothing bad.
