In the Chameleon Material Research Group's laboratory, a piece of fabric about the size of a handkerchief had been laid out in front of Yang Duanhe.
Half of the fabric rested on the stainless-steel worktable, while the other half hung suspended in midair.
Under the incandescent light, one half had turned the same color as the light. The other half, touching the stainless steel, had turned a silvery white that matched it perfectly.
This effect alone was several levels beyond anything they had achieved in their previous research.
"Come on, let's find a place outside and test it." Yang Duanhe picked up the fabric and led everyone out of the laboratory, into the courtyard assigned to their group.
Once they reached the courtyard,
Yang Duanhe placed the fabric in the shade of a tree. In an instant, it changed color to match the shadow perfectly.
The color blended in so well that nobody could make it out. If they hadn't known the fabric was there, they wouldn't have noticed it at all.
Yang Duanhe picked it up again and laid it on the lawn.
In a matter of moments, its color quickly shifted to the green of the grass. It even reproduced the patches where some of the grass had withered.
More importantly, the color-changing material was a bright scarlet when exposed to sunlight on its own.
But on the lawn, under the sunlight, it took on a lush green sheen, indistinguishable from the grass around it.
The fabric had become a part of the lawn.
By the same logic, if they hadn't known it was there, nobody would have found it, right?
Yang Duanhe even had them bring in several high-performance military cameras to film the fabric. It was just as hard to spot on the footage.
