The Ultimate Simp! Is This Really a Strawberry?
After Qin Lin delivered the red strawberries to RT-Mart, the weather turned against him, and it started raining.
By the time the rain had eased a little, it was already noon when he got back to Market Street.
When he returned to the shop, the black dog was sheltering from the rain outside. Its fur was soaked, and it curled up, licking the water off itself.
That black dog was getting more and more shameless.
He hadn't driven it away in over ten days, and it was practically acting as if it planned to make the place its home.
"Woof, woof!" The black dog sprang to its feet when it saw Qin Lin and barked at him, baring its teeth.
Qin Lin pretended not to notice the dog, opened the shop, and went inside. After working all morning, his stomach was growling, so he promptly took out his phone and ordered delivery.
He added two large chicken legs and two fried eggs. He was now someone who could afford to splurge at every meal.
Just as he was about to place the order, he glanced at the black dog, which was creeping back and forth at the shop entrance. The dog seemed to notice his gaze and cautiously took two steps inside before squatting down and staring intently at him.
Qin Lin silently tapped on his phone and added another large chicken leg before placing the order.
The black dog was always hanging around his place. He was starting to feel strangely attached to it.
People were probably just complicated like that.
It was like when a woman had a simp. Even if she found him annoying, once she got used to his attention, she might start treating it as something to boast about. And if he stopped fawning over her, she might even feel unsettled.
Not long after,
the delivery guy arrived.
Qin Lin took the food, set it on the table, and opened it. The black dog, which had been squatting nearby, suddenly lifted its front paws off the ground and stood up, staring fixedly at the food.
Seeing this, Qin Lin decided to tease the dog. He deliberately picked up a chicken leg and ate it in front of the black dog, putting on an expression of bliss.
Instead, the black dog stuck out its tongue and leaned its head even closer, as if it were waiting for him to toss it a chicken bone.
Qin Lin found it amusing and tossed one of the large chicken legs to the black dog.
The black dog caught it in its mouth with unbelievable speed.
It seemed not to have expected a meaty leg instead of a bone. Its eyes widened in shock.
Qin Lin paid the dog no more attention and ate while turning his attention to the game on the screen in his mind.
There were bugs again, and he also needed to water the crops.
After fixing the game's problems, he finished his food. Just as he was about to clean up, he felt a movement by his feet. The black dog was gently rubbing against his calf, apparently testing the waters and trying to ingratiate itself with him.
When it noticed Qin Lin looking down, it ducked its head and returned to its spot at the shop entrance.
By evening,
the watermelons and red strawberries in the game had ripened again. This batch included 421 watermelons and 301 pounds of red strawberries. Qin Lin took them all out of the game and delivered them in several batches to RT-Mart's storeroom to be weighed. Then he found Manager Chen and settled the day's accounts.
The 421 watermelons brought in 7,893 yuan, and the 606 pounds of strawberries brought in 18,180 yuan. Adding the 6,341 yuan from the watermelons he had wholesaled to Liu Dasheng and the others that morning, his income for the day was 32,414 yuan.
By the time he left RT-Mart, he had already received a bank text about the payment:
"Your account ending in ... received 26,073.00 yuan. Balance: 199,157.60 yuan."
His savings were about to break 200,000 yuan.
Qin Lin couldn't help reading the message over several times before putting his phone away. Then he rode the tricycle back to Market Street and parked it before getting on his little electric scooter to pick Zhao Moqing up from the tax office.
As luck would have it, just as Qin Lin pulled up at the entrance on his scooter, Chen Hao came out.
Their eyes met. Chen Hao frowned slightly as he looked at Qin Lin's scooter. He couldn't help taking out his car keys and unlocking his Audi. The car chirped, and its lights flashed.
He was clearly trying to show off.
Weren't men all this shallow? The things they showed off were usually their careers, houses, cars, and women.
Of course, not all men were so shallow. Some had already achieved real success and wouldn't do something so lame, while others simply had nothing to brag about.
Chen Hao was clearly neither of those types. He was shallow. In his mind, he drove an Audi while the other guy rode a little electric scooter, and that somehow gave him a sense of superiority.
Just then,
a chubby young man came out and greeted Chen Hao. "Chen Hao, why didn't you wait for Zhao Moqing? Weren't you going to ask her out to dinner and confess your feelings? With what you've got going for you, you should be able to win her over, right?"
The abrupt remark knocked the smug look off Chen Hao's face. Without saying a word, he walked toward his car.
Damn it, Zhao Moqing had left with a guy who rode an electric scooter. He was still reeling from the shock. What was the point of asking her to dinner now?
He honestly couldn't understand how a guy on an electric scooter could land such a lovely girl, while he was still single.
Why?
The chubby young man was baffled by Chen Hao's reaction. He walked over to a nearby Jetta, got in, and drove away.
"Qin Lin!" Zhao Moqing came out of the entrance, spotted Qin Lin, and ran over with a bright smile. She climbed onto the back of his scooter with practiced ease, wrapped her arms around his waist, and said, "Let's go!"
As Qin Lin rode onto the road, he asked, "Should I take you home, or should we go out for a fancy dinner?"
Zhao Moqing thought for a moment. "How about we buy groceries and go to your place? I haven't visited Auntie in ages."
"Sure. I'll call home in a bit. Mom will be thrilled when she hears you're coming." Qin Lin said this as he turned the scooter toward Darunfa Supermarket to shop.
Qin Lin didn't like shopping, but he liked walking around with Zhao Moqing, holding her hand.
After one round of shopping, the two of them were carrying bags of vegetables and seafood.
When they got home and Lin Fen saw Zhao Moqing, she couldn't hide her smile. "Moqing, you're here! Come in, come in!"
Lin Fen couldn't have been more pleased with Zhao Moqing. Her son had somehow found a kind, gentle girl who wasn't materialistic and treated her elders with respect. He was unbelievably lucky.
It was just that their family was far too poor. Otherwise, she would have arranged for her son and Zhao Moqing to get married long ago and made her daughter-in-law.
"Auntie! Qin Lin and I bought a lot of groceries. I'll wash them first," Zhao Moqing said sweetly. She didn't mind the cramped, cluttered, and rather messy surroundings at all.
"Sure! Let's wash them together!" Lin Fen took the groceries from Qin Lin, then went into the kitchen with Zhao Moqing, beaming.
Qin Lin suddenly felt like an outsider.
Zhao Moqing was actually a pretty good cook, so Lin Fen happily helped her out. Once the meal was ready, Lin Fen had a better appetite than usual and ate quite a bit more.
After dinner, Qin Lin went into his room and came back out with a bag. Inside were the Quality 2 red strawberries he'd harvested that day. He took out half of the four pounds.
"Xiao Lin, what have you got there?" Lin Fen asked curiously.
"Red strawberries. I saved them specially. Mom, Moqing, try some." Qin Lin set the Quality 2 red strawberries on the table.
Seeing them, Lin Fen immediately put them in front of Zhao Moqing. "Moqing, strawberries are packed with nutrients and they're good for your skin. Have some more."
"Okay, Auntie." Zhao Moqing liked fruit and didn't refuse. She picked up a strawberry and took a bite, but soon exclaimed in surprise, "Qin Lin, why are these strawberries so delicious?"
"They're a special quality. You can't buy them anywhere else. They're impossible to find. Good, aren't they?" Qin Lin sounded a little smug. Of course they were—Taste +2, Sweetness +2, Texture +2, and Aftertaste +2.
They were a one-of-a-kind product from the game.
"Mm!" Zhao Moqing nodded eagerly. "The strawberries I've had before don't even compare. This is the first time I've ever tasted strawberries this delicious."
"It's just a red strawberry. Can it really be that good?" Lin Fen asked, puzzled by Zhao Moqing's reaction.
She'd been a fruit and vegetable seller all her life and knew red strawberries well. They all tasted more or less the same.
But when she picked one up and tried it, she too looked astonished.
The flavor really was beyond her expectations. Even after swallowing, the taste lingered in her mouth, leaving her wanting more.
She could hardly believe she was eating strawberries.
And it wasn't just Zhao Moqing. Lin Fen had worked with fruit and vegetables all her life and had tasted countless strawberries over the years, but none of them came close to the ones her son had brought home.
