After a journey of stops and starts, and watching a few live broadcasts of some unlucky souls, the group led by Qian Mo finally returned to Martial Soul City.
The carriage drove directly into the rear of the Papal Palace. This was the living quarters for Bibi Dong and Qian Mo, a place where ordinary people were strictly forbidden from approaching.
As soon as he stepped off the carriage, Qian Mo stretched his body with a long, satisfying yawn.
Nothing beats the comfort of home.
"Greetings, Your Highness the Holy Son! You have returned!"
"Pay respects to Your Highness the Holy Son!"
The maids and guards along the path bowed one after another, their eyes filled with fanatical worship.
Qian Mo waved his hand, signaling them to dispense with the formalities.
He took Zhu Zhuqing's hand and said to Yue Guan and Gui Mei, "Alright, you two can get lost now. Don't come bothering me."
"As you command, Your Highness!" Yue Guan and Gui Mei exchanged a glance, bowed, and then vanished from the spot in an instant.
They certainly wouldn't dare to defy the orders of this little ancestor.
Qian Mo led Zhu Zhuqing into his ridiculously large palace.
Ever since she stepped off the carriage, Zhu Zhuqing had been in a state of complete bewilderment.
Her little head was utterly unable to process the information she had received over the past few days.
First, she had been rescued from that dilapidated courtyard by a boy who looked like an immortal, then she had witnessed her fiancé suffer through all sorts of bizarre misfortunes, and then she had ridden in a magnificent carriage the likes of which she could never have imagined in her entire life.
Now, she had been brought to this palace, which was even more grand and magnificent than the Star Luo Imperial Palace.
Is this heaven?
She looked at the mirror-like floors of the palace, the crystal-clear chandeliers, and the maids dressed in beautiful clothes who were so respectful toward Qian Mo. She felt like Cinderella, having accidentally wandered into a castle from a fairy tale.
Subconsciously, she looked down at herself.
Wearing tattered clothes, with her little face and hands all dirty, she felt completely out of place with everything here.
Feeling a sense of inferiority, she shrank back slightly, trying to pull her hand away from Qian Mo's.
Qian Mo sensed her movement, but instead of letting go, he held on even tighter.
He stopped, crouched down, and looked at Zhu Zhuqing's nervous little face.
"What's wrong?"
"I... I'm dirty." Zhu Zhuqing kept her head down, her voice as faint as the buzzing of a mosquito.
It was only then that Qian Mo noticed that the little kitten hadn't seemed to have had a bath since he brought her out.
Having been covered in dust throughout the journey, she certainly needed a good cleaning.
"If you're dirty, just wash up. It's no big deal."
Qian Mo took her by the hand and walked straight into the palace bathroom.
The bathroom here was larger than the entire courtyard Zhu Zhuqing had lived in before. In the center sat a massive pool built of white jade, already filled with steaming warm water, with countless unknown flower petals floating on the surface.
"Wow..." Zhu Zhuqing couldn't help but let out a small gasp of wonder.
"Go on, wash yourself. You know how, right?" Qian Mo gestured toward the pool.
Zhu Zhuqing nodded, then shook her head.
Of course she knew how to bathe, but in such a luxurious place, using such high-quality things, she felt a bit intimidated.
Qian Mo saw her hesitation and sighed.
What a troublesome little thing.
He walked over to the wardrobe nearby and opened the doors.
Inside hung all sorts of little dresses, all prepared for him by Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong... women's clothing.
Qian Mo's face turned black instantly.
What kind of twisted hobby did these people have!
He rummaged through the closet quickly, looking for a normal outfit.
Fortunately, in the very corner, he found a dress with a relatively simple design.
It was a crimson flowing cloud dress embroidered with auspicious cloud patterns in gold thread, looking both opulent and playful.
[Crimson Cloud Skirt] [Quality: Soul Tool (Fine)] [Effect: Automatic cleaning, constant temperature, slight increase in Soul Power recovery speed.]
Qian Mo: "..."
Even the clothes were Soul Tools; Martial Soul Hall was truly wealthy.
He took the dress out and tossed it to Zhu Zhuqing.
"Put this on when you're done."
Then, he pointed to the maids nearby. "You all, help her wash up."
"Yes, Your Highness." The maids bowed in response.
Qian Mo turned to leave; he figured the maids could handle it.
But he had only taken two steps when the corner of his robe was gently tugged.
He looked back to see Zhu Zhuqing looking at him pitifully, her large eyes filled with unease and dependency.
She was not used to being touched by strangers.
Qian Mo sighed inwardly.
Fine, he might as well see this through to the end.
"You all go out," he waved his hand at the maids.
"Yes." The maids retreated.
Only he and Zhu Zhuqing remained in the bathroom.
Qian Mo pulled over a small stool, sat by the edge of the tub, and picked up a clean towel, dampening it with warm water.
"Come here, lean your face forward."
Zhu Zhuqing hesitated for a moment, then obediently leaned in.
Qian Mo took the towel and began to wipe her face.
His movements were very gentle, bit by bit, wiping away the dust and tear stains from her face.
Zhu Zhuqing remained motionless, letting him tend to her.
She could smell a pleasant scent coming from him, like the smell of sunshine.
Her heart beat rapidly, and her small face began to burn.
Never... never had anyone been this good to her.
Soon, a clean, delicate little face was revealed.
Her skin was fair, her features exquisite, especially those upturned cat-like eyes that carried a natural hint of allure.
Although she still had a bit of baby fat, it was already clear that she was destined to be a beauty.
"Alright, take off your clothes and get in yourself," Qian Mo said, tossing the towel aside.
Zhu Zhuqing's face turned bright red in an instant, as red as a ripe apple.
She looked at Qian Mo, then at the bath, her small hands clutching the hem of her clothes. She didn't move for a long time.
Qian Mo: "..."
He suddenly realized.
Holy crap, I forgot that I'm a guy now too.
Even though I'm only six years old, there's still a difference between boys and girls!
He coughed awkwardly twice and turned around.
"Um... I've turned away. Hurry up and wash."
Behind him came the rustling sound of clothes being taken off, followed by a "splash" as she entered the water.
Qian Mo stood with his back to the bath, feeling his old face burning with embarrassment.
What am I doing! I'm a middle-aged man with the mental age of several decades, helping a little girl... This scene is way too criminal!
It's all because of this damn Auspicious Constitution, making me inexplicably want to be good to this little kitten.
After a long while, Zhu Zhuqing's faint voice came from behind him.
"I... I'm done washing."
Qian Mo breathed a sigh of relief and turned around.
He saw that Zhu Zhuqing had already put on the Crimson Cloud Skirt and was standing there feeling uneasy.
Cleaned up, she looked like a completely different person.
Her long, jet-black hair draped over her shoulders, still damp, making her small face appear even fairer. The crimson dress looked like the glow of the evening sunset on her, so beautiful that it was hard to look away.
Qian Mo looked at the delicate, doll-like little girl before him and nodded with satisfaction.
Hmm, not bad. The little kitten I picked up looks quite pretty once she's cleaned up.
He walked over and naturally took her hand.
"Let's go. From now on, you're my cat."
"I... am your cat?" Zhu Zhuqing tilted her small face, looking at him in confusion.
"That's right," Qian Mo said as if it were only natural. "I picked you up, so you're mine. Any problems with that?"
Zhu Zhuqing thought for a moment, then shook her head earnestly.
"No problems."
Although she didn't know why she had turned into a cat, as long as she could stay by his side, it didn't matter what she became.
Qian Mo held her small hand and walked out of the bathroom.
He had made up his mind: from now on, this little kitten would be under his protection.
Anyone who dared to bully her would first have to ask Chrysanthemum Guan and Old Ghost if they agreed!
And then, they would have to ask his damn, unreasonable luck if it agreed!
