The snow kept falling. This winter was truly cold; the biting wind made it feel like being trapped in an icehouse, chilling one to the bone.
On Entei's back, Yan Yang, shielded by both Entei's body heat and his scarf, didn't feel cold at all.
As a Fire-type Pokémon, Entei naturally feared neither wind nor frost.
From a distance, a human child sat atop a Legendary Pokémon, galloping through the snowy landscape, painting a beautiful and harmonious picture.
Suddenly, Entei seemed to hear something and grew alert, carefully discerning a faint sound carried by the icy wind.
"Dad, what's wrong?" Yan Yang noticed Entei's unease and asked.
"I think I hear a Pokémon sending out a distress signal. I'm pinpointing its location now." Entei explained briefly, continuing to search for the source of the sound.
"Okay." Yan Yang quickly fell silent. His own voice would distract Entei; it was best not to bother him in this situation.
Following the sound, Entei soon locked onto a direction and dashed off swiftly.
Before long, they arrived beside a thick pile of snow. The sound came from beneath it. Yan Yang could now hear a "Pika-pika" voice, estimating that at least one Pikachu was buried inside.
There was indeed a Pikachu under the snow pile, but not just a Pikachu—also a Ledyba, a Bellsprout, and a Togepi.
The four of them had originally come out to look for food, but not only did they fail to find any, they accidentally fell into a ground hole. To make matters worse, just as they tumbled in, a nearby big tree, unable to bear the weight of the accumulated snow, dropped a massive pile of snow, sealing the entrance tightly. They struggled with all their might but couldn't clear the snow to get out.
Fortunately, the snow hadn't crushed them. The hole had some horizontal space that the snow hadn't completely filled, giving them a chance to catch their breath. Otherwise, the consequences would have been severe.
But they knew that if they didn't find a way out soon, staying there would mean starving to death. So they began shouting for help, hoping some Pokémon would come to their rescue.
Yet in such a cold winter, how many Pokémon would be willing to go out? And how many would hear their cries?
Soon, the other companions had given up, leaving only the Pikachu still calling for help.
They shivered from the cold, never having longed so desperately for sunlight and warmth.
Just then, the Pikachu heard footsteps above and cried out excitedly, "Come save us!"
The other Pokémon heard it too and chimed in, "Help!"
Above, Entei had already begun to act. He gathered flames in his mouth and unleashed a Flamethrower at the snow.
The flames were gentle, likely to avoid accidentally burning the Pokémon in the hole, yet powerful enough that the snow sealing the entrance melted quickly. Soon, the Pokémon deep inside the hole came into view.
Yan Yang saw a Pikachu, a Ledyba, a Bellsprout, and a Togepi. After confirming there were no issues, he helped Entei pull them out of the hole.
Speaking of which, could Entei really hear the sound from underground from so far away? That hearing was a bit too good.
"It's Entei!" the Pikachu exclaimed in surprise. "He's come to help us! We're saved!"
This Pikachu recognized Entei. It had been rescued by Entei once before, and now it was saved again. The Pikachu didn't know how to thank Entei enough.
But it seemed Entei didn't need anything from them.
After pulling all four Pokémon out, Entei and Yan Yang finally relaxed.
Entei's eyes, full of authority, now looked at the Pikachu and the others, radiating a warm and steady light.
"Don't be afraid," Entei said in a slightly gentle voice, comforting the Pokémon. "I will protect you."
The four Pokémon hopped around joyfully, expressing their gratitude to Entei.
But they were also puzzled: why was there a human child beside Entei? No humans ever appeared here—at least, they had never seen one before—and they had no idea what this person was doing.
They weren't Pokémon from this forest and rarely heard gossip from other Pokémon.

Still, since he had helped them, the four Pokémon also thanked Yan Yang in turn.
Seeing how grateful the Pokémon were, Yan Yang felt delighted. These Pokémon were just so adorable; he wanted to hug them and give them a good ruffle.
And he did just that. He picked up the Pikachu and started petting it. The Pikachu's fur was cold and a bit stiff, not as soft as Entei's, but the texture was still pleasant.
The Pikachu was a little annoyed—how dare he just pick it up and start touching it everywhere?
But since you saved me and you're with Entei, I'll let you pet me.
Anyone else would have gotten a Thunderbolt by now.
Still, could you please behave? Don't act like you've never touched a Pokémon before—it's so embarrassing. The Pikachu had a little inner self going crazy.
The other Pokémon didn't mind at all; they even scrambled to be held. They were just too cute. Yan Yang fulfilled each of their wishes one by one, while also indulging his own love for ruffling Pokémon—just like those people who are obsessed with petting cats, having little resistance to fluffy, cute little animals.
Yan Yang didn't believe anyone could resist.
Still, Yan Yang preferred large Pokémon. Cool and imposing large Pokémon were naturally beloved by many; they didn't have to be fluffy—being handsome enough was fine.
In his past life, in that appearance-obsessed era, being strong was only temporary, but being handsome was forever. Of course, being both strong and handsome was even better—definitely more popular.
Entei probably fit the criteria of being both strong and handsome, but it seemed not many people liked him. At least, Yan Yang had never met anyone whose favorite Pokémon was Entei.
Everyone has their own preferences; respect is enough.
If he had a phone now, Yan Yang would really want to post online: "Entei fans, assemble!" and see how many people shared his taste.
But the Pokémon that came out later seemed to lose that original charm, drifting more and more toward the abstract side...
Entei quietly watched Yan Yang and the Pokémon interacting nearby, revealing a smile like an old father.
Just as everything seemed to be settling into calm, a sudden storm shattered the peace.
The sky turned dark without warning, thick clouds gathering as bone-chilling gusts of wind howled through the treetops, carrying the cold and desolation of early winter.
Snowflakes were whipped into chaos by the gale, forming white whirlwinds. The trees swayed in the wind and snow, and the heavy accumulation caused some branches to snap under the strain.
Visibility plummeted; everything around was swallowed by a vast expanse of white. The biting wind stung the eyes, making it impossible to keep them open.
Entei crouched down to let Yan Yang climb onto its back, then immediately directed each Pokémon to quickly find a place to take cover.
Entei led the way, blocking the wind ahead, while Pikachu and the other Pokémon huddled behind it, trudging forward in its footsteps.
The wind was still fierce. This Blizzard had struck so suddenly that it didn't feel natural—more like something a Pokémon had stirred up.
Given how powerful this Blizzard was, it was likely the work of a very strong Pokémon.
Yan Yang gripped the mane on Entei's back tightly as the cold wind lashed against his face. He felt that if he didn't hold on, the storm would sweep him away.
Thankfully, the four smaller Pokémon hadn't climbed up; otherwise, with their size, if they lost their grip, they'd be blown much farther off.
But perhaps they wouldn't dare anyway. The natural aura of a Legendary Pokémon would keep them from getting too close to Entei.
After walking for a while, they finally reached a large rock. Entei decided to take shelter from the storm here.
Just then, Togepi suddenly tripped and was immediately swept into the sky by the strong wind.
"Toge, Toge, help!" Togepi cried out desperately as the wind carried it higher.
"Don't be afraid, I'll save you!" Entei set Yan Yang down and charged without hesitation toward where Togepi had been.
