The agents around them went on high alert, immediately drawing their weapons and closing in on the direction the detector was pointing.
Dr. Charles's heart clenched!
Had Raven been discovered? She wasn't far from the president—only thirty meters away.
If she was found here, and happened to be disguised as a guard with a weapon in hand, her intention to assassinate the president would be obvious. War between humans and Mutants would be inevitable.
But Charles soon realized that Bolivar's detector was pointing at a trash can.
The trash cans on the lawn were only the size of buckets. There was no way anyone could hide inside one.
But as the guards closed in, a tongue suddenly shot out from inside and pierced one guard's brain!
Like a frog lurking by the water and snatching a mosquito with its tongue, the White House guard's forehead began bleeding, and he slowly collapsed to the ground.
"Someone's been killed!"
"Someone's hurt! Protect the president!"
"Open fire! Open fire!"
The guards instantly descended into chaos.
Bolivar stumbled back in shock, retreating into the crowd around the president. A cold smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
To accomplish great things, one couldn't afford to fuss over the details.
If he couldn't get the Sentinels here, then he could still use genetics and gene technology to stage an attack by Mutants.
As long as Mutants and humans went to war, his authority would soar, and power would quickly fall into his hands.
Especially if President Nixon died in a Mutant "assassination." Even if Bolivar couldn't become president right away, the successor would certainly grant him even greater power. And if all the dignitaries present—the vice president and the councilors—fell in the attack, becoming president wouldn't be a pipe dream.
It would be wonderful.
