A palm-sized, jet-black dagger with a rippled edge. It looked less like a dagger and more like an engraving knife.
[Blade of Smelting] Origin: The Outcast White: 10 (Rare) Type: Weapon Attack: 5–6 Smelting Trait: Consume 100 points of magic power to use this equipment as a base and add up to 5 types of materials to smelt them together, randomly creating a piece of equipment or an item. Durability: 10/10 Description: Anything can be smelted. Price: 1,500 Paradise Coins
The engraving knife's attributes made him pause. He rubbed his chin. This ability was a little different from what he'd imagined!
He'd thought it would be a weapon with a permanent ability, which would let him become a genuine artifact refiner.
That's why he'd specifically chosen a dagger: he'd hoped to get a piece of equipment like an engraving knife.
He'd gotten the equipment, all right, but the ability had turned out to be single-use. That left him a little disappointed.
As expected, reality and ideals were still a ways apart.
His fingers tapped against the table as he considered how to use the weapon.
As things stood, the engraving knife's value had been greatly reduced, and its use was a little too niche.
The characters in this world had no magic power. Their energy system was Innate One Qi, so they couldn't trigger the smelting ability.
If he simply handed the equipment to Feng Zhenghao, it would amount to no more than a sharp weapon, not a Magic Tool. Whether it would complete the task was another question.
He looked at the trait again: "Card Fusion." Did that mean he had to use up this card?
His fingers drummed against the table. He made up his mind, walked slowly to the window, and called Yuan'er.
"I need to change out some of the materials. Yes, that's right. I'll send you the list in a little while."
After hanging up, he went to rest. He needed to wait for his magic power to recover.
Three days later, at the Tianxia Group's training ground.
"Big Brother Ode, is this the Magic Tool you made for me?"
Feng Xingtong gave Wang Changle a strange look, then glanced at the Magic Tool in his hand.
"Cough, cough. That's right. It looks a little strange, but it works pretty well."
He turned his head, a little embarrassed, though his tone was firm.
Feng Xingtong looked at the wooden staff in his hand with doubt. Three-colored gemstones were embedded in it, making it look just like a magical-girl wand.
[Gem Staff] Origin: The Outcast World Green: 19 Attack: 1–1 Gem's Radiance: Can store one energy-based skill. (Durability decreases by 1 each time it is used.) Durability: 3/3 Description: Balala energy... gems, shine!
He'd made the equipment using Smelting as a base, adding locust wood, green phantom quartz, bloodstone, Golden Liquid, and sapphire.
Though he didn't know how to smelt, he knew Feng Xingtong's main fighting technique was Spirit Seizing and Dispatching, a form of sorcery that used the power of spirits.
So he'd used three different kinds of gemstones and locust wood as the main materials, since they were all yin in nature.
Then he'd added Golden Liquid, and in the end, he'd gotten this weapon.
Strictly speaking, it couldn't be called a weapon. It was more like a consumable piece of equipment, and it might not be very effective in a head-on fight.
But it worked well as support, and at least to some extent, it suited Feng Xingtong's abilities.
Following the instructions, Feng Xingtong infused the staff with a stream of qi. Black needles shimmered into view across the green phantom quartz.
"Thank you, Big Brother Ode. I really like this Magic Tool."
After testing the staff's power, Feng Xingtong nodded to Feng Zhenghao. The Magic Tool was consumable, but it really did work well.
He could infuse it with plenty of qi before a fight, then activate it three times in quick succession during battle.
That would let him unleash a sudden burst of power. Four consecutive bursts would be enough to turn the tide of a fight.
"Good. Xingtong, make sure you thank Big Brother Ode properly. You young people should spend more time together. I won't get in the way." Feng Zhenghao left with a hearty laugh, and the option to deliver the Magic Tool in his side quest now showed as complete.
"Miss, I have another Magic Tool here. I was wondering if you might be interested in buying it."
He strode over to Feng Shayan and produced the Boots of Agility.
"You made two Magic Tools in one go?"
Feng Shayan took the Boots of Agility, unable to hide her surprise. Even as the Feng Family's eldest daughter, she was well-informed.
From the look of it, the Magic Tool was suited to her. Another tailor-made Magic Tool? Two in three days was still beyond what she could quite wrap her head around.
"Miss, the movement technique you often use is called Shrinking the Ground. It's a footwork technique that emphasizes speed. These boots can increase your movement speed and coordination."
He made no demands. Instead, he quickly explained the boots' features.
Feng Shayan's eyes lit up. She took the boots, put them on, and sprinted around the training ground at full speed. With her agility increased by one point, her movements were visibly quicker.
"Big Sis, your speed has gone up by almost ten percent!"
Feng Xingtong knew Feng Shayan better than anyone. As she darted around the training ground, not only was she faster, but her strikes were noticeably quicker too.
"Be quiet. Tell me, what do you want? You waited until Father left to take these out, so what are you after?"
Feng Shayan gave her foolish little brother an exasperated look. He'd waited until their father left before bringing out the boots. It was obvious he planned to charge her a hefty price.
Still, the Magic Tool worked quite well. She was faster, and her balance had improved too.
"Don't be so suspicious! My request is simple: give me one million, and when you submit my information for the Luotian Grand Ceremony, just write that I was born strong."
He spread his hands. Ever since donating ten million, he'd been broke. Money was still useful in this Derivative World.
"That's all? Fine. I'll transfer the million to you now."
Feng Shayan held back the curious Feng Xingtong and rolled her eyes at Wang Changle. This guy clearly had his sights set on the Luotian Grand Ceremony. He was already making his move.
"Mm, that's all. After all, I'm an executive at the Tianxia Association too! Thanks, Miss. I have other things to take care of, so I'll be going."
He glanced at the transfer notification on his phone and smiled, eyes narrowing. He had other things to prepare for. Completing the task wasn't all he had in mind.
"Big Sis, is there something else Mr. Ode can do besides refining artifacts?"
Feng Xingtong watched him leave with a carefree stride, utterly bewildered.
"That guy... I hate to admit it, but if you run into him at the Luotian Grand Ceremony, just surrender!"
Feng Shayan glared at Feng Xingtong, then headed toward the training room.
That guy didn't want others to know what he could do, so this Magic Tool was really meant to keep her quiet.
Since she'd accepted his gift, she naturally wouldn't reveal anything about him.
Besides, the gift was exactly to her liking. She wanted to see what that shady guy would do when he ran into Zhang Chulan.
"Then I'll look forward to it!"
