In the Eagle Empire, Kunsars, son of Sage Kubana, was also the third emperor of this continent. His reign, too, had reached its final years.

Nearly fifty years old, Kunsars had fathered seven sons and four daughters with his empresses and consorts. The eldest prince, born to the empress, had been named Crown Prince by Kun II ten years ago and raised as the empire's heir. After Kunsars abdicated, he would succeed him as emperor.

There was little dissent, either within the court or among the common people, regarding the position of heir.

After all, the eldest prince was reasonably capable. During his ten years as Crown Prince, he had accomplished quite a few things and grown close to the upper ranks of the Truth Church and the War Church, winning considerable support.

Of course, most importantly, he was the eldest grandson of Sage Kubana, the Human Pioneer personally appointed by the gods. On the Canghuang Continent, where the churches held great power, no one questioned the legitimacy of his position.

Instead, it was Kun II, the current emperor, whose actions over the years had drawn doubts from many.

Compared to the previous two emperors, both of whom had been God Chosen, Kun II seemed far too conciliatory.

Some spoke in his defense, saying that one of the previous emperors had founded the nation, while the other had been the Human Pioneer. They had simply shone too brightly, leaving Kun II no chance of surpassing his predecessors.

But that explanation was clearly not enough to convince everyone.

The Eagle Empire's control over its peripheral kingdoms had been weakening year by year. More often than not, it could only rely on the churches' religious system to make them outwardly submit to the imperial emperor.
