Night was growing late. Deren had finally finished arranging tomorrow's affairs. He collapsed wearily onto the sofa and let out a breath.
"I'm exhausted," the transmigrator groaned.
The Black Dragon sat beside him and gently massaged his limbs. Guilt filled her voice as she said, "It's all my fault. If unknown magic hadn't been implanted in me, maybe none of this would have happened."
Deren reached out and stroked Onyxia's long hair, comforting her. "Don't overthink it. It can't all be blamed on you. I never expected such hidden magic to exist either. You'll have the biggest role tomorrow, so remember to play it well."
The Black Dragon pursed her lips in a smile. "Acting is what I'm best at. Tomorrow, I'll play the vicious villain perfectly."
As Deren exchanged intimate words with his old companion, he felt someone sit down on his other side. Turning his head, he saw the duplicate Jaina. She took Deren's hand and wrapped it around her waist, then asked hesitantly, "Deren, will everything go smoothly tomorrow?"
At this moment, the Black Dragon neither grew jealous nor threw her weight around. Instead, she released Deren and let him comfort the duplicate Jaina. After running around together these past few days, even without much memory, she had still become deeply dependent on Deren. The body's instinctive memories were still vivid and moving.
Deren patiently reassured her. "According to my plan, once tomorrow's performance is over, we should be able to wrap things up. You and the original Jaina can merge into one and return to the real Jaina you once were."
The duplicate Jaina sat there blankly for a long time before speaking. "If we're both parts of Jaina, then what exactly am I now? I can see, think, and hear, yet I'm not myself?"
Deren
