While Deren was still feeling dazed, Elaseth walked over and said, "Come here. Let me explain something to you."
Knowing that she must have something confidential to say, Deren signaled to Jaina and followed Elaseth into a small meeting room.
After closing the door and motioning for him to sit, Elaseth finally said, "That elf has an extremely pure kind of Death Power inside her. Even my power could not suppress it. If not for the blessing of the goddess Elune, this treatment would likely have failed."
"Thank you, Priestess—and even more so, thank the Goddess for her mercy." Deren quickly rose to express his gratitude to Elaseth.
Elaseth raised a hand to indicate that he need not be so polite. Then she said, "The Goddess wishes to know what happened here."
After thinking for a moment, Deren said, "Sylvanas recently had some conflicts with the Orcs, followed by an assassination attempt. The guards are still investigating the mastermind behind it. But the Orcs claim they are innocent and were merely used by the assassins."
"So the assassins merely exploited the Orcs' hatred of the elves, and their true target was Sylvanas herself?" Elaseth asked.
Deren rubbed his chin and hesitantly asked, "Has the Goddess ever mentioned the Shadowlands?"
Elaseth said, "I know of it. It is the realm of death."
"Then this assassination may have been a scheme of the Shadowlands. Sylvanas is one of their most important trump cards, as well as the final executor of a conspiracy that has lasted thousands of years." Deren could only state his own speculations. For now, it seemed Elune was still on his side. Besides, he would need her cooperation for certain future actions.
Elaseth frowned. "You mean they have some enormous conspiracy?"
Deren nodded. Then a thought struck him, and
