At Ragnaros's signal, the assassin led Deren into the cabin and opened the door to a room.
"Go in, Deren. The boss saved this especially for you," the assassin said, gesturing for Deren to enter. Then he locked the door from the outside.
Deren saw that the room was small, with only a bed and a table.
There were no windows, but high on the wall above the bed was a ventilation opening fitted with iron bars.
It seemed Ragnaros had long since guarded against him escaping.
He lightly tapped that wall. It did not seem very thick. If he used force, he should be able to break through it.
The problem was that it would inevitably make noise.
He climbed onto the bed again and brought his face close to the ventilation opening. Outside was pitch-black, but the air blowing in carried moisture and a salty tang.
It seemed the sea was outside, and from time to time came the sound of waves striking the hull.
Deren sighed. If he used brute force to smash through the hull and jumped straight into the seawater, even if he escaped Ragnaros's pursuit, it would be very hard to find the route back to Theramore in such darkness.
And he was no naga. He could not soak in seawater for long periods.
In the end, he gave up on the escape plan. Ragnaros was a precocious black dragon. Since he had been able to gather the assassin organization under him, he surely had methods to monitor Deren's movements.
There were no candles in the room, only a magic lamp giving off dim light.
The sound of waves came from outside now and then, and the hull rocked back and forth.
Deren lay down on the bed fully clothed, perfectly clear in his
