Ch. 821No time—get aboard!
Summary
- Raszageth retreats after threatening to return. Though the group might have defeated her, doing so would have come at a heavy cost.
- Onyxia tends to Deren’s injuries, comforting him and apologizing for arriving late. Deren says he survived partly thanks to a fragment of Chromie’s Hourglass of Time, which once gave him a way to summon her. Chromie initially forgets the incident, then remembers and teases him about his boldness.
- Jaina urges everyone to leave so Deren can recover. Chromie recalls that she came to light the Dragon Isles’ Oathstone, but dismisses the task as non-urgent now that the Isles’ seals are lifted. Eager to return to Theramore, she persuades the group to abandon the matter for now.
- Deren agrees emphatically. Jaina teleports the group to their ship, the Flying Fish. Back aboard, the motion of the sea brings back Deren’s distressing memories of being kidnapped, but Onyxia’s comforting presence helps him calm down.
- Onyxia vows to punish Ragnaros when they meet again. Deren, angry at having been vulnerable and targeted, decides he can no longer rely on secrecy, cleverness, or powerful allies for safety. He resolves to build his own strength and seriously consider his “Six Gods Combination” plan.
Character developments and interactions
- Deren shifts from wanting to keep a low profile to embracing a more forceful, self-reliant approach. His injuries and recent ordeal deepen his determination to become powerful enough to defend himself.
- Onyxia is openly affectionate and protective, supporting Deren physically and emotionally. She is concerned by his sudden ruthlessness, yet also stirred by the change in him.
- Chromie provides comic relief through her forgetfulness and eagerness to return to Theramore, while sharing a teasing, familiar rapport with Deren.
- Jaina takes a practical role, prioritizing Deren’s recovery and arranging the group’s escape.
- Deren’s exchanges with Onyxia show their intimacy; his reunion with Chromie mixes gratitude, humor, and teasing.
