Background / History

Zhou Lan's power accompanied Ye Chen from birth as a Dark Moon imprint on his palm. Before Ye Chen's martial soul awakening, Zhou Lan repeatedly appeared in his dreams as a scarred Dark Moon surrounded by dark-purple runes, instructing him to draw upon the moon, make the Void his home, and regard Gravity as his authority 1.

During Ye Chen's awakening, Zhou Lan's dormant power violently repelled Qian Daoliu's sacred power. A vast Dark Moon and demonic silhouette manifested behind Ye Chen, disrupting Gravity and alarming all seven Enshrined of Spirit Hall 2. Zhou Lan then revealed that his true body had already perished; only his undying will and part of his source power remained 2.

Seeking revival, Zhou Lan chose Ye Chen as an inheritor capable of bearing his Authority of Gravity. Ye Chen accepted the inheritance and pledged to grow strong enough to help restore Zhou Lan's origin 3. Zhou Lan subsequently granted Ye Chen Innate Rank Twenty Soul Power and a Divine Grant that mutated his gravity into an Innate Domain affecting gravity, light, and space 3.

After Ye Chen acquired his first two Soul Rings, Zhou Lan formally established the Nine Trials of the Moon. The trials were designed to let Ye Chen adapt to the Authority of Gravity gradually rather than be reduced to dust by a direct transfer of Zhou Lan's power 11 12. He later awarded Ye Chen for completing the first trial ahead of schedule 17 18.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Zhou Lan directed Ye Chen to the Starfall Soul Ganoderma, recognizing that it would strengthen his spiritual power and gravity control 22. He also identified the remnant souls of the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings beneath the well and allowed Ye Chen to decide whether to accept their offered origin power 23 24.

Zhou Lan is cold, imposing, and generally indifferent in speech. He regards the Authority of Gravity as a foundational universal force and openly considers Ye Chen's present strength feeble by comparison 11.

Despite his goal of resurrection, Zhou Lan does not forcibly control Ye Chen. He explicitly states that he cannot and does not intend to possess him, and he leaves the decision to accept the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings' origin entirely to Ye Chen 2 23.

He recognizes Ye Chen's accomplishments with restrained approval, praising him after the early completion of the first Moon Trial 17.
