This was extremely important. The parchment explained that if they turned one in the wrong direction or mixed up the sequence, it would be an irreversible mistake that could lead to terrible consequences.
Beyond this door lay the place where the owner of the entire underground palace, Jayavarman II, rested in his coffin. It was only natural for there to be terrifying monsters inside.
Thus, Tina stood to one side, looking at the parchment in her hand as she directed the eight Ability Users to begin turning the eight Buddha statues. Each statue had to be turned differently, at a different angle, so she had to call them out one by one and have them turn the statues into the proper positions.
"Boom! Clatter! Clatter!"
Each time a statue was turned, it made that sound. Everyone could tell that the mechanism producing it was beneath the bluestone slabs under their feet. This made them all retreat a few steps. What if the ground beneath them suddenly split open?
The eight Buddha statues turned one after another. Finally, after a "Click!", all sounds seemed to vanish at once. For a moment, the cave was utterly silent.
"Bang!" A mercenary shot a rat that had darted up at him, killing it with a single bullet.
That sound seemed to trigger something else.
Then, amid a "Rumble!", the entire cave shook several times. The local tyrant gold door before them began trembling, and finally, with a "Creak!", slowly opened.
