When Zu Liming was seven, conflicts often broke out between mountain villages. Sometimes, a single well or a little salt could trigger a battle. During one small clash, the village where he lived was overrun.
It was an overcast afternoon, and the entire sky was dark. In such weather, what Zu Liming could never forget even more was the ugly, ferocious faces of the enemy.
Many of the enemies had covered themselves in colorful paint, making them terrifying to look at. Carrying clubs, spears, swords, and other weapons, they rushed into the village and slaughtered anyone they saw.
These people were soldiers from another village, yet they had lost all humanity. Their beastly nature had been completely unleashed. They hacked at anyone they encountered and set every house in the village ablaze.
They did not even spare small children, killing them without hesitation.
Zu Liming remembered clearly that when his parents saw the scene through a crack in the door, they rushed back and hid him in a concealed cellar. Then they told him not to make a sound, no matter what he saw or heard!
After hiding him away, they charged out of the house without hesitation, drawing away the bandits who were about to rush inside.
That was the last thing his parents ever did for him. It showed just how deeply they loved him.
