Shen Qiong still remembered how she had two deep dimples when she smiled. She was very pretty, and back in high school, she'd received plenty of love letters.
Li Mengqing (within 500 meters): Shen Qiong's high school classmate. Age: 22 Height: 163 Health Value: 83 Luck Value: 4 (unlucky)
Almost all the other information was a question mark, meaning his level wasn't high enough and he'd have to unlock it gradually.
Shen Qiong remembered that when he graduated, he'd gone out of his way to save her number. He wondered if she still had the same one.
He looked through his contacts and, sure enough, found it. Since he was about to close up shop and had nothing else to do, he called her.
At that moment, Li Mengqing was driving a white sedan when her phone suddenly rang.
She'd just gotten off work. Who was calling her now? Surely they weren't asking her to work overtime?
She picked up her phone reluctantly and saw the name Shen Qiong on the screen.
"Huh? It's him? Why would he call me?" She remembered that Shen Qiong had been her high school classmate. He'd gotten along well with everyone, but his grades had been average. He was pretty good at basketball, though.
Since she was driving, she put on her headset. "Hello?"
Shen Qiong hadn't expected her to actually answer. He paused for a second, then tried to make his voice sound as robotic as a prerecorded message. "Hello! This is Lucky 100%! You're our very first customer. Your luck is poor today, so please be careful on the road."
Li Mengqing recognized his voice immediately, but didn't expose him. Playing along, she said, "What's this? A scam?"
"Just a friendly reminder: your luck is poor today, so please be careful on the road," Shen Qiong said.
Li Mengqing burst out laughing. "Hey, hey, if you keep messing with me, I'm going to get mad!"
Shen Qiong was surprised. "You know who I am?"
"Of course. You're Lucky 100%." Li Mengqing thought that if he wanted to play around, she might as well play along.
Shen Qiong was suddenly a little disappointed. He'd thought she actually remembered him. It looked like she hadn't saved his number!
Although they'd been high school classmates, they belonged to completely different circles. Shen Qiong had been a below-average student, and after graduation, he could only get into a third-rate university. Li Mengqing, on the other hand, was pretty and had excellent grades. Surely she could get into a prestigious university.
Lots of people had pursued Li Mengqing back then, including one of Shen Qiong's good roommates. Shen Qiong had always valued loyalty, and since his buddy liked her, he couldn't make a move on her. So, in their three years of high school, they hadn't interacted much.
It was only natural that she hadn't saved his number, Shen Qiong told himself.
"That's right, I'm Lucky 100%! You're incredibly lucky to be our first customer. We're delighted to serve you. Thank you!" Shen Qiong hung up as soon as he finished speaking.
Li Mengqing stared at her phone, stunned that he'd actually hung up. Pouting, she grumbled, "What a weirdo."
She had no idea that Shen Qiong had originally wanted to chat with her for a bit. Unfortunately, her overly enthusiastic "cooperation" had made him think she'd forgotten him, and he no longer felt like talking. So he'd hung up.
There was a loud bang!
A sharp rock in the road punctured her tire. Li Mengqing got out and saw that the front left tire had gone flat. "Ah! I'm so unlucky!"
She suddenly remembered Shen Qiong's strange phone call. Could it really be a coincidence? Was she actually having bad luck?
Li Mengqing lightly bit her lower lip. She had a spare tire, but she didn't have the strength to change it.
Should she call Shen Qiong? Maybe he was nearby?
No, he hadn't even told her who he was. He'd insisted on pretending to be someone from Lucky 100%. Maybe he didn't want to see her!
Li Mengqing thought Shen Qiong was one of her admirers. She guessed he was too embarrassed to meet her, but still wanted to hear her voice, so he'd made that strange call.
Women could have very vivid imaginations. They could take a phone call or a text from you and spin it into a long, long story.
And so, a perfect misunderstanding took shape.
Shen Qiong was feeling annoyed. He'd gone out of his way to call and warn her that her luck would be bad that day, only to find out she didn't even recognize him.
Li Mengqing was annoyed too. He'd called out of the blue to tell her she'd have bad luck, and then her tire had immediately been punctured.
The next day.
Li Mengqing was told that her proposal had been sent to the general manager, who wanted to see her in his office that morning.
She was so nervous that she rushed out without even taking time to get ready. After hurriedly eating breakfast, she headed to the office.
The plan she'd proposed was very bold. It promised high profits, but also came with high risks. Li Mengqing had no idea why the general manager had called her in.
Was he going to criticize her? The company was in a period of rapid growth, and should have been pursuing a more stable direction.
Or had her proposal been approved? Did the general manager want to hear more of her thoughts?
Her heart fluttered nervously, and she barely even noticed herself walking into the office.
When she reached the general manager's office, she realized she was so nervous that she couldn't bring herself to open the door.
Then she remembered Shen Qiong's Lucky 100% act from the day before. He'd said her luck was bad, and it had actually come true. Should she ask him?
In her desperation, Li Mengqing was willing to try anything. As a newcomer just starting out in the workforce, she didn't want to make a bad impression on the general manager.
After hesitating for a while, she gritted her teeth, found Shen Qiong's number, and called him.
Shen Qiong was studying a copy of the I Ching. He'd found that there was a lot in it he didn't understand.
Beep, beep, beep. His phone rang.
He picked it up and was surprised. "Her? Why is she calling me?"
Li Mengqing hadn't left a good impression on him last time, but she was still an old classmate, so Shen Qiong answered.
"Hello, this is Lucky 100%." Shen Qiong figured she didn't remember him anyway, so he might as well keep up the act.
Li Mengqing recognized Shen Qiong's voice at once. She was sure the person who'd answered was him. Why did he insist on pretending to be Lucky 100%? Whatever. If he wanted to play along, she'd keep playing along.
She asked, a little hesitantly, "Um, could you tell me how my luck is today?"
Shen Qiong chuckled. It looked like his warning the day before had worked—she was calling him back.
"Please hold on while I check."
He opened the People nearby interface and found "People I've greeted" in the special interface. He and Li Mengqing had spoken on the phone, so the system naturally counted that as greeting her.
As for people he'd found by casually searching, since there'd been no contact or conversation, they didn't leave any trace in the "People I've greeted" interface.
He opened Li Mengqing's profile, and her latest information for the day appeared. The other data hadn't changed, but her Luck Value had gone from 4 to 7.
Looks like this girl's pretty lucky today!
He raised the phone to his ear. He could hear Li Mengqing breathing unevenly. Was she nervous?
"Congratulations! Your luck is excellent today. You're going to have a stroke of good luck. Have a great day!"
When Li Mengqing heard that, her nervousness eased considerably. Although she thought the flat tire the day before had just been a coincidence, there was no harm in hoping for the best.
A stroke of good luck? After hanging up, she stood outside the general manager's office and took a deep breath. "It'll be fine! Today's a lucky day, so it's sure to be good news."
Shen Qiong saw that she'd hung up and gave a bitter smile. "This girl really thinks I'm a Lucky 100% fortune-telling operator! She just hangs up whenever she wants."
Li Mengqing had no idea Shen Qiong was complaining about her. She pushed open the door and entered the office. Her direct supervisor was sitting inside.
"Hello! I'm Li Mengqing. The proposal on your desk is mine." She nervously glanced at her document on the desk.
The general manager smiled. "Don't be nervous. Sit down. I've read your proposal. It's quite interesting."
Li Mengqing asked excitedly, "Really?"
"Of course. This is why the company hires new employees every year. Longtime employees aren't as open-minded as you are. Their ideas tend to be too cautious."
Li Mengqing wondered if he meant she was reckless. She stuck out her tongue adorably and explained, "I'm actually pretty cautious too."
"Hahaha, I'm not saying you're reckless," the general manager said with a smile. "I mean the company needs employees like you, who are willing to be proactive and strive for progress. I've read through your ideas. There are a few flaws, but overall, they're worth trying."
A little while later, Li Mengqing left the office. Once she'd made sure the door was shut, she jumped excitedly. "That's fantastic!"
She gave her phone a kiss. Only after kissing it did she realize how excited she'd gotten. All her coworkers were staring at her.
She hurried back to her seat, still thrilled. She couldn't believe the general manager had accepted her idea.
She smiled sweetly and murmured, "Lucky 100%? It's pretty accurate."
"Achoo!" Shen Qiong sneezed and rubbed his nose. "Some girl must be thinking about me."
