Bi Fan smiled. "This is a precaution to stop anyone from sneaking in before the competition begins."
"I see." Su Ran nodded earnestly.
Their conversation was overheard by someone nearby. A crew-cut man sneered at them. "I wonder where this country bumpkin team came from. You've even dragged a little kid over to make up the numbers. I say you'd better get lost while you can, before you end up on the wrong side of a blade!"
The contemptuous taunt made everyone bristle with anger. But unless Bi Fan made a move, they wouldn't rush in and start a fight.
Bi Fan merely swept a cold glance over the crew-cut young man, then ignored him.
He patted Su Ran on the head and murmured, "Don't let it bother you. Once we're in the forest, we'll teach him a proper lesson."
Su Ran smiled and lifted her head. "Okay!"
It was almost time for the qualifiers to begin, and the adventure groups started lining up at the table to collect their entry tokens.
Zheng Shi'an looked at Bi Fan. "Big brother, I'll go get the tokens."
"Okay."
He joined the line behind the table. When it was his turn, he said, "We're from You Rong Adventure Group. We're here to collect our tokens. Here's our registration booklet."
A middle-aged man with graying hair took it, squinted at it, then looked up and asked in a low voice, "How many people are in your adventure group?"
"Uh..." Zheng Shi'an paused, then shook his head with a wry smile. "I don't know the exact number. Probably somewhere around sixty or seventy."
"That's too many. Under the latest rules, an adventure group can't have more than forty members."
"Huh?" He stared blankly. "But how come we never heard about this
