After the flat rock layer rose, a ring of complex formation patterns lit up on the ground beside where it had stood. Then another ring lit up beside that, followed by ring after ring, each one appearing farther out.
At the same time, the innermost ring rose. After a short interval, the second ring rose, then the third...
The ground did not stop rising until the eighteenth ring, the outermost one, had lifted into the air.
Now, where Pill City had once stood, only a bottomless pit remained...
Around a bend in a mountain valley far from Pill City, a carriage sped along.
