A secluded stretch deep in the forest looked especially dim beneath the gloomy sky.
Bi Fan stood outside the cave, squinting into the distance at the dark clouds hanging almost low enough to press against the mountain peaks. He knew a torrential downpour was about to fall upon the land.
Xuan Chen floated beside him, silently watching it all with him.
After the time it took to drink half a cup of tea, a thick bolt of lightning, silver as a serpent, streaked through the dark clouds. An earth-shaking crack followed close behind, exploding with a thunderous boom. The deafening sound left Bi Fan feeling as though a dizzying buzz had burst out of his head.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he stared ahead, his expression somewhat stiff. As the wildly flashing Silver White Lightning tore across the sky like giant, vicious serpents from Ancient Times, a faint, baffled shock stirred in his heart.
As a cultivator, he had seen plenty of lightning and heard of many cultivation techniques that could draw upon its power to increase one's combat strength. Yet he was surprised: why was today's thunder so much more ferocious than any he had ever seen?
