Internal Conflict
Mu Yi's voice was low, and his gaze was especially sharp as he looked at Bi Fan. He knew this fellow had been getting close to people from Shenyi Gate and the Great Domain Alliance lately. In a way, that made him an indirect enemy of theirs.
At that moment, he made no effort to hide the trace of murderous intent in his eyes. Just like his words, it was a subtle threat aimed at the man before him.
Bi Fan calmly raised his eyes. His expression remained as unruffled as ever, as if he wasn't the least bit concerned about being surrounded by enemies.
His composure inexplicably irritated Mu Yi. It was as if his words had carried no threat at all. That made it hard for him to save face, especially with the girl he admired watching from the side.
He took a deep breath, suppressing his displeasure, and did his best to speak with an air of magnanimity. "Boy, I'll give you one last chance. Hand over the Inner Core and apologize, and I'll pretend this never happened. How does that sound?"
At that, Bi Fan glanced sideways and scratched his head, then analyzed the situation with utmost seriousness. "If you put it that way, wouldn't I be getting the short end of the stick? After all, I was the one who ultimately brought down the Thunder Swallowing Beast. I may not have done anything extraordinary, but I did put in the hard work, didn't I?"
"You've got some nerve. You think you can make me hand over the goods and apologize with just a few words, then claim you're giving me a chance? Is this how the Wuji Palace, one of the five great sects and a renowned, righteous school, does things?"
