Wang Yue thought it over. He still couldn't go up to the heavens. That golden light had clearly been aimed at him, and if he went up there, he might be walking straight into a trap.
Still, he felt he had to test things somehow. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to rest easy.
As he was puzzling over how to do that, he spotted Gao Shulu a hundred paces away. The man was already on the verge of death, barely clinging to life.
Thinking that without Gao Shulu's cultivation and sturdy physique, breaking through would have been much harder, Wang Yue couldn't bear to let the man die there.
Besides, since Gao Shulu was almost dead anyway, he might as well put him to some use. Maybe the man could survive if he made it up to the heavens!
So Wang Yue first cast a divination for Gao Shulu and looked into his next life. Then he reached out, grabbed Gao Shulu, and held him in his hand.
He flew quickly toward the Heavenly Gate. Just as it was about to close, he casually tossed Gao Shulu upward, throwing him through the gate.
Only after someone had entered did the Heavenly Gate seem to remember that it had forgotten to close. It slowly shut after Gao Shulu went through, as if his ascent had reminded it to do so.
Gao Shulu had no idea Wang Yue had sent him up there to test who had fired the golden light, and whether that person was friend or foe.
He only thought Wang Yue was so kindhearted that he'd thrown him into the heavens rather than let him die. Through the last sliver of the closing gate, he glanced at Wang Yue, as though he wanted to etch this
