Gao Shulu noticed Wang Yue, too. He hadn't expected to see him as soon as he arrived in the human world, and he was delighted. He greeted him warmly. "I never thought it'd be you, brother. Looks like this really is the human world. But what's that pale blue thing down there?"
Wang Yue could tell Gao Shulu had no idea he'd been set up, so he smiled and bluffed, "I did a little divination and discovered you were still alive, but weren't being treated very well up in Heaven.
"So I wanted to take a look by opening up the sky. I set up this formation and broke through it.
"By the way, what's going on up there? Can you tell me about it?"
Gao Shulu sighed and said helplessly, "I've only heard rumors myself. They say there was once a Jade Emperor in Heaven, but he and some other immortals left a thousand years ago. The Four Emperors are all that remain now.
"The True Martial Great Emperor rules the north, the White Emperor the west, the Green Emperor the east, and the Red Emperor the south.
"But I heard there used to be someone above the True Martial Great Emperor in the north. That immortal ascended alongside the Jade Emperor, so the True Martial Great Emperor took charge of the whole north.
"As for the three emperors in the south, west, and east, they were all originally under the command of their respective emperors. When those emperors left, their subordinates inherited their positions."
Hearing Gao Shulu explain it, Wang Yue understood why Heavenly Humans who descended to the mortal world kept getting killed. The big shots had all left, leaving only a handful of nobodies behind.
Curious, he asked, "Do you know how strong these emperors are?"
